Honestly- how much in total (inc stockings) are you spending on your preteen for Xmas?

OP posts:
molifly · 05/12/2025 21:14

I think including stockings I've spent £400 each which sounds like a crazy amount but when you look at the piles, it doesn't look like you'd expect a £400 pile to look

ImThePr0blem · 05/12/2025 21:36

Probably around £75-100 each this Christmas but we don’t set a budget or make note of what has been spent.

We try to buy a similar amount of gifts for each child but in terms of actual cost, it’s whatever it is.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 05/12/2025 21:37

£600 for all three kids combined, so about £200 each. This includes money given to us from grandparents

Screenager · 05/12/2025 21:38

Just under £300 each so far. But haven’t bought stocking fillers/chocs and stuff yet!

Hayley1256 · 05/12/2025 21:38

I think I'm up to about £700 so far and plan to stop now but keep seeing things and rethinking 'oh she'd love that'. Her main present was around £350 and the rest includes stocking fillers, gifts from Santa etc

This being said!… their gps have spent £400 on each of them!

Laptop that I got in the sale as she needs one with a good graphics card for a certain game she likes to play

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 05/12/2025 21:49

Ewww. I’m embarrassed to say I spend whatever they want. One year an Apple air laptop, this year a ps5. He also loves Ralph Lauren so we’ve got him a hoodie and the aftershave. Prices are ridiculous.

My ds is getting a laptop too! They get more expensive as they get older for sure!

They do! I waited until Black Friday to buy it and it came down by £200 - it's the Sim 4 she wants to play with some of the expansion packs but needs a decent laptop spec. I'll still probs end up seeing more things too 😅

GagMeWithASpoon · 05/12/2025 21:55

It all depends on what’s on her list/what needs replacing/bought. The year she needed a laptop was more expensive than the year her main gift was a microscope (for fun rather than school). So between a couple of hundred to 6/700.

She’s 14 now and this year we’re at £400(give or take) including everything.

Alwaystired23 · 05/12/2025 21:55

This year too much. Main presents have come to 2k and the other bits probably another few hundred each, I have 2 dc, I think we've spent about £2500 in total combined. We dont usually spend this much. Dc2 was saving for a new gaming computer, so we decided we'd surpise him with it, that alone was about 1.4k. We can afford it and aren't in any debt for this.

Last year we probably spent about 1.5k on both combined. Their main presents were about £200 and £400, each. So it varies year by year, depending on what they've mentioned. They don't actually ask for much to be fair.

Lol Ralph Lauren is an expensive habit to get him into 😅

I think there's a big difference between getting big ticket items, that are essentially "everyday" items for teens; and just buying piles of crap for the sake of it.

TokenGinger · 05/12/2025 22:09

Honestly, I have no idea. Maybe around £800ish for them both. However, one of the presents is a Switch 2 which was £439 with a game 🥴 I know that sounds frivolous, but I’ve spaced out buying presents since my July payday. They’re both about to size up in clothes so a lot of their presents are clothes I’ve been buying in the next size up and stashing for them (for DS, things like football kits, football tracksuits, football boots), new trainers, new bedding etc. They’ve not got tons of toys or throw away items, just lots of the every day things that they need but they’ll be thrilled with because it links to their interests.

Tinybirdie · 05/12/2025 22:10

Not kept count but ballpark figure of around £2000

Puffalicious · 05/12/2025 22:11

£450/500 each - ages 13, 19 & 21 (older are students).

Main things:

DS13 PS5
DS19 Annual cinema pass
DS21 Turntable (2nd hand)

The other things add up really quickly - bits of clothes they need/ sports kit/ trainers/ board games/ books etc. In today's climate things are really expensive, so I don't think I'm spending that much really - I could easily spend much more.

My ds only needs it for school and online stuff. I’ve just bought a refurb one, which I’ve never done before. Finger’s crossed it’s okay!

I agree the other little bits add up quickly!… dd’s skincare stuff and ds grooming stuff. Then a few items of clothes! 🙄

SkankingWombat · 05/12/2025 22:37

A bit under £300 each in value, although I still need to get a few small consumables for stockings (and the satsumas of course!). It will likely end up at the £300 mark. DD2's gifts have actually cost that much, but we got very lucky with DD1 in that someone at DH's work won the thing she'd asked for as her main gift but didn't want it, so gave it to DH. We've just needed to buy a few small add-ons for it. Some of the things are quite practical and, particularly for the stockings, either 'nice to haves' or upgraded/fancier/branded versions of what they'd usually use through the year (eg foaming shower gel or Nike socks).

ineedhelp37 · 24/12/2025 09:44

I’ve spent £300 on each kid BUT everything has been blue light discount or Black Friday sales so they have £400+ worth of gifts.
