Anyone else taken the kids out week after sats?

We decided to book a holiday for our 11 year old week after Sats but during term time.

I figured they wouldn’t be doing anything too intense and would be a lovely reward for her for working so hard!

I’m now feeling awful as I’ve realised that week is usually the most fun they have all their primary years!

There’s no going back now as holiday is booked, just feeling like a moron about it and don’t want him to miss out…

I have to say it didn’t occur to me - I tried hard to keep anything like sats as a non- event, nothing to get work up about etc, and so there wouldn’t have been any thought about a real celebration afterwards. I did take dd out of school for a few days before the holidays started for my brothers wedding in Australia, mind you, but she was younger then too.

Who said it’s the best week? Will be a gradual phase back into normal school routine. The fun week will be the one before the end of the school year!

It definitely is a really fun week but I’m sure she will also have fun on a holiday.

Ours have auditions that week and school play prep starts. I did take mine out in younger years as their siblings finished early due to gcse/a levels and we went away after exams. School actually ok'd it as they have ASD/ADHD and it was quieter for them but I suspect it was before the new stricter rules came in.

'Most fun week'? Not in my school. For one, we keep working on the curriculum - do you think the children should have no education for 4 months until they join year 7?

Secondly, year 6s can go a bit off the rails on the summer term - why ramp that up any sooner than necessary?

Ours have a fun afternoon, then back to business as usual, except without tests looming.

Having said that I can't condone parents who think it's OK to take their child out of school during term time for a holiday. Luckily few parents do this.

When are the sats completed?

Poonu · 03/05/2025 10:14

You probably did it because the holiday was substantially cheaper which is absolutely fine. Just own it.

DS’s school started auditions for school play, some schools go on their residential (assuming yours isn’t). Work will still be going on as writing moderation will still need to be done (most likely)

Ours get an ice cream on the Thursday afternoon after SATs but that’s it, no celebration or fun events. I think your child would much prefer a holiday

Of course I did and we got ten days for £25 and saved £1600 in total! Still feel guilty though 😂
