Hey this is abit of a different post for me but I am freaking out!!!
My daughter is 9 and she is very grown up! Started growing breast buds recently and pubic hair.
This evening she told me when she wiped there was blood but had had nothing since!!! Now i cant remember my first period but can this be it!
I was very young when i started but I definitely was older than year 4! I feel so sad for her but also me i feel like if this is it my baby is gone and she’s no longer my little girl!
Also kids are mean and I am soo worried she will be bullied!

So I suppose my question is this! has this happened to anyone when they was younger or have a child that has been through something similar?

When I was at school there was a girl who started her periods when we were 10 - so definetely plausible that it could be. I didn't start till I was almost 15 and I remember feeling left out 😂

Some girls can start as young as 8, that feels so very young to be dealing with it all. It could still be a few years away as sometimes you get very irregular bleeding to start with (wish I had but it liked to turn up bang on time). Get together some period products in preparation. Maybe put things into a wee makeup bag for her school bag.

I started at 9rs 8 months and mum started on her 9th birthday!, so yes could certainly be her first period. I remember it being a bit difficult for the first couple of years at one point having a period every fortnight and really bad pains, but it all worked out and I havnt had any problems later on caused by starting early.. I think she will be fine once she gets used to it and there's so much more available these days sanitary protection wise than there was years ago, I remember wearing one of the old Dr whites massive pads lol not ideal for a young girl

I was 9

Yes it happens, my DD was 9.

Lots of girls start their periods at this age.

I'm surprised that you're surprised, given that your DD has pubic hair and breast buds.

Seaweed42 · 21/11/2024 00:05

Speak to your GP about it.

We talked about it which I am sure you have done. I think having 2 older sisters helped her understand that it was something very normal to be happening to her.
I did tell her teacher who was very lovely and said that she wasn't the first, it wasn't unusual and there was always a couple of girls who started their periods at this age. My DD was happy for me to tell her teacher, I wouldn't have done it if she wasn't ok with it. It was reassuring for her (and me) that she had someone she could go to if she needed help.

I was in year 6, I remember it so well.
I had very bad cramps all of a sudden and went to the toilet, only to find my underwear covered.
I was horrified. Stuffed tissue and got on with the rest of the day and literally had no clue how to handle it. I was way shy to tell the teachers.
I wish I had more support from my mum at the time.

My (only just) 8 year old was doing cartwheels in the garden one summer evening when it became very clear she had started.

😂 It didn't help that my mam described it to me as a "little bleed" each month - what a liar she was!!

Gosh that is very young. Had she got other signs of puberty before then?

my dd is 9 but no signs yet. I was 11 when I started my period. Like a pp says, there are a lot more options now for sanitary protection. My niece (11) prefers to use the period knickers than pads.

also your dd could have this little bleed then nothing for ages.
