I'm a widowed single dad. My 12yo has really bad stomach cramps same time every month. I'm assuming that she is starting her transition to womanhood but no products needed yet

She is also a full time wheelchair user, not that that matters.

My late wife had poly cystic ovary syndrome, I'm worried my daughter may have it but when asking her consultant at hospital, he didn't seem to sure. Any ladies out there with pcos, is it something that can/is hereditary and is she likely to have the same stomach cramps/pain every month.

Yes I can ask family but I always get the same answer and it's not helpful

Hello!

PCOS is a syndrome, a collection of symptoms, that are usually brought on and aggravated by lifestyle choices. So lack of exercise and high fat and sugar processed diet will potentially cause and aggravate PCOS. It is when cysts form on the ovaries as the egg don’t release because of hormone dysfunction. It can be eliminated with a very healthy diet. I know as I was diagnosed with PCOS in my mid 20s and completely eradicated all the symptoms through diet and exercise. there will be many people who dispute this though I urge you to look up Colette Harris’s book.

You don’t inherit it.

Wheelchair use could aggravate PCOS to the extent that she’s less able to do exercise.

The cramps sound like she may be getting her period?

It’s common for many women to have shooting pain mid cycle (when ovulating), called MittelSchmerz. Then obviously associated with period itself is common for periods to be a bit dysfunctional in first few years, including painful before they settle down. And then there’s a whole spectrum of gynae issues in between that may cause abnormal amounts of pain (endometriosis etc). I’m not sure if PCOS runs in families.

probably at this point would focus on trying to get adequate analgesia/warm packs when she needs it, and in time it may all self regulate
