Period pants

Hello. My DD, 12 has just started her periods. She had her first one at the start of July and it seemed to be quite light and only lasted a few days. I had the lil ets teens pads ready and she used them. She has started again this month and it seems to be heavier and the lil ets pads weren't enough so I used my long Always pads on her. She has some additional needs and I was having to help her put them on and prompting her about having to change them. This is ok as it is the Summer holidays but won't work when she is out all day at School

I want to be more prepared for next month and get period pants so she won't have to worry about changing in School or having leaks. Is there any difference in the brands? How do you know what absorbency to buy? She started off light the first month but definitely was heavier the second month. Should you just go for heavy to keep her covered? I have looked online at Wuka and they are quite pricey but are they worth it for convenience and peace of mind? Thanks in advance.

Never used them but could she try a pad over the period pants? Anyone at school who could help her change, or a toilet in the sen department where she feels more comfortable?

DD used ModiBodi teen when she first started her periods. We then added some pairs from Primark and Sainsbury's for lighter days.

We have the m and s ones for heavier. Really good and often on sale 3 for 2. Also have modi bodi swim bottoms. My daughter uses these and it doesn’t hinder her going swimming. Good luck

Modibodi Boyshort Period Pants for Teenage Girls Moderate-Heavy Flow Womens Cotton Underwear amzn.eu/d/8TuSVy4

These have been the best so far. A lot of them are for use 'with' pads (Innersley?) or are cut too high over the leg/over the bottom. These were the only pair in a boxer style with full protection without a pad. Discounted too! 🥳

Thanks everyone. I have taken the plunge and ordered a school set from Wuka in heavy flow. I hope this will make things easier for her next month when it happens again and for when she starts back to School.

I think that was a good plan. My daughter just turned 14 but started about a year ago, been very irregular so far so she finds it stressful worrying about when it might appear. She has found wearing a pad with the period pants helpful when it's heavier, that way she can nip to the toilet at lunchtime and just remove the pad rather than have to worry about swapping period pants etc, she didn't feel comfortable with just the pants all day on a heavier day. No leaks, just felt a bit uncomfortable. Just a suggestion in case it helps.

My DD uses the WUKA ones, they're great. She has swim bikini bottoms too because she's quite a keen swimmer.
On her heaviest day she wears a pad with period knickers for peace of mind but at the start & end and at night she just wears the period pants.

If changing is a problem, she can wear the period pants with a pad in the morning, and then take the pad off at lunchtime and just use the pants. This means you don't have to get semi undressed etc.

SparkyBlue · 18/08/2024 22:35

I bought some from Next for DD who is 11 and we are very happy with them. She uses pads with them when her flow is heavy but they give her great confidence that she won't leak when she is in school.

I'd like to get some of these for my DD, not having used them myself. Are they a massive faff to wash?

I actually wore my modibodi ones for post partum bleeding so they can really cope with a lot of blood and I never leaked. So definitely pad and then the knickers would cover her for a school day.

Ivyy · 21/08/2024 10:34

Dd uses Always ultra number 5 pads inside modibodi boyshorts at school for peace of mind on heaviest days. I haven't worn pads for many years but tried these ones myself recently, and they are so much better than they used to be! Really wick everything away and v absorbent. Dd has found the pad and period shorts combo really ease any anxiety about leaking at school, especially on p.e days etc

RamblingFar · 21/08/2024 10:50

If you get a high enough absorption then she won't need to worry about pads at all.

I bleed through the highest absorbancy modibodi ones in less than an hour. I can wear the highest absorbancy Flowette ones for a whole school day without worry.

Maybe buy a couple from several brands and see which ones work best for her. The more expensive brands well known brands aren't always the best at absorbing blood.
