10yo Bedwetting

Hi All,

My 10yo DD still wets the bed occasionally. She’s diagnosed with anxiety and panic attacks and gets really run down which is when she wets the bed. The biggest problem (for me!) is that my husband works away during the week and she’s got into the habit, since she was littler, of sleeping with me while he’s away and, unfortunately, she’s just destroyed our mattress. DH bit the bullet last night and ordered a new mattress which will arrive on Tuesday and, obviously, we don’t want this one getting destroyed too so we are thinking of getting a waterproof protector for it. We’ve bought a couple before but have found them so uncomfortable, crinkly and made the bed feel humid/sticky, if you know what I mean. Does anyone have any recommendations for a really good, comfortable one, please?

BTW we are working on the whole bedwetting thing too, not just ignoring it!

Thanks!

Hi there,
Same problem here, 11yo daughter and doing our best to help the situation....not getting anywhere at the moment :(
We did find a good waterproof sheet without the crinkle noise, on Amazon.

So I use the silent night terry towelling sheets, they don't make noise and are waterproof. I have two on dcs bed and one on the double too just for general protection. Because they are terry towelling material they dry reasonably quick too when hung over the banister!

Second vote for silent night terry towelling one but also an absorbent bed pad which just sits under the top sheet which might just catch a wee so less washing! We bought one for a double bed which was designed to go horizontally but when used vertically, fits a single bed.

Use the mattress protector and also a towel underneath the sheet on her side of the bed for extra protection

Thanks! I look into both of those protectors. Unfortunately a towel doesn’t cut it, I’ve tried it but DD just soaks through a towel x

I have a bedwetting 10 year old son. I find the Terry towelling mattress protector the most comfortable for our bed when I have period flooding. I use the plastic ones on ds bed though as they are wipe clean. Does she take meds for the bedwetting?

You need to know where to look, you want incontienence websites as they are more geared toward bed wetting than a slight spill of a drink. We have always had mattress protectors and my waters actually broke in my bed before I had any contractions. Great also if children vomit on your bed. Ds's was from Brolly Sheets but they are no more. Was a quilted one and never rustled.

Bed wetting is incredibly common even at this age. You can find more info on the ERIC website about it which may help reassure your DD. Until they produce the hormone vasopressin to reduce urine production at night then their bladders will fill and empty.

By Bedeck's waterproof mattress protector is brilliant! For similar reasons to you I have one on my bed. I have a regular protector on top and I don't even notice it! Highly recommended
