Hi, I need to get my son some new clothes and he's requested nothing too babyish. Currently in joules, crew and young Boden. Would this be regarded as babylike at this age as I have no clue what that age wear. (We live rurally in South West so don't see many his age locally). Also what haircuts are popular for this age? He has asd but is desperate to fit in and so am keen to try and get it right for him. Thank you 😊

Hi, my 10 (almost 11) yr old would consider Joules and Boden stuff a bit babyish I'm afraid. He does like bright colours though. I tend to get things from Next or H&M for him. He loves Hype too due to the bright patterns but is v.expensive so tend to get stuff secondhand. My DS spent time online looking at hairstyles and we came up with something which suits him and looks good. Maybe try looking online and see if anything appeals? Good luck, it's not easy finding nice boy's clothes which aren't boring!

Hi,
I have got a 12 year old and live In the sw too! He mainly wears just plain tracksuit bottoms or he has a few pairs of cargo trousers from next as well! Or during the summer months he is in surf shorts a lot that I get from Vinted
Cant help with the hair as he is has long curly hair which is either down or in a bun for school.

CatsOnTheChair · 19/08/2023 06:58

Mine are also mainly in H&M, with bits of gap, next and tesco thrown in.
Sportswear is pretty common imo.

Haircuts - round here many spam to have it longer and styled on top, with it shorter at the back.

IggyAce · 19/08/2023 07:01

My ds 12 has plain joggers from Primark, jeans from next and then has a mix of T-shirts and polos from next, gap, Hollister and Nike.

RiverLen · 19/08/2023 07:15

Jack and Jones is another brand to consider
New looks mens department
Nike/Adidas/under armour etc
Asos

Hair - why not ask the barber for advice?

nc14 · 19/08/2023 07:17

Mine is a lot younger than yours but I try and avoid babyish clothes. I like Arket and Zara.

lastseasonstop · 19/08/2023 07:19

At that age it was more sports gear so joggers, hoodies and t shirts. Nike or adidas. The outlets were good for those. Next and H&M were good for something a bit smarter. Jeans and a jumper.

grass321 · 19/08/2023 07:28

Mine like Hollister, RL, A&F, Uniqlo and Levi's for jeans. One also likes Zara and Pull & Bear. And sadly a lot of sportswear - Nike, UA & Adidas.

They've both started buying secondhand on Vinted which is a good option given how fickle teenagers' taste in clothes is.

Yes joules and Boden mine would have rejected at 10. Mine is very particular about his style. He prefers elasticated waistbands (more comfortable!) and has cargo trousers and tracksuit bottoms with these. He does wear loose fit jeans too though (h and m / Zara). He has lots of surf style t shirts and likes checked shirts (Uniqlo, h and m, hollister etc)

haircut longer on top, shorter round sides although he’s very cross that we didn’t give him curly hair!

grass321 · 19/08/2023 07:30

(I've had some really nice kids clothing from Crew and they both chose a men's shirt when we were in the outlet store a few weeks ago).

Same here. Try the H&M web site. They do reasonable stuff up to about 13.

We've just had the hair cut discussion too and generally short at the sides and back, and longer and more tousled on top. Google 100 school haircuts for boys.

We buy ASICs trainers as a reasonably priced compromise.

I have a 9, very nearly 10 year old. He lives in mainly joggers a Tshirt or football top, and a hoodie/jacket. I buy most of his basics from H&M, Lindex and Primark, if we have an occasion I need him to (begrudgingly) smarten up for usually head to Zara or Next.

The last couple of years he has asked for eg an Adidas jumper, Nike tracksuit as part of birthday/Christmas presents so he has a few ‘branded’ bits which wouldn’t be my choice but obviously they are getting to an age where they want to fit in with their friends.

He usually has a pair of Vans/Converse on the go, a pair of the most basic Nikes (usually around £25-30, ‘runners’ I think they’re called) and a smarter pair eg he currently has a pair of Nike Jordan’s his grandma got him.

He usually gets a ‘short back and sides’ type cut but I don’t like it too short so he gets a number 4, then a scissor cut on top.

Thank you so much. This is all hugely helpful. Jotting all the names down and downloading Vinted. Good idea asking barber. I didn't think of that. Xx

Are tops with saying on - a no go? Also colour - is it better to stick to drab colours or are fun colours ok? Thank you

I'd love to answer but there seems no rhyme nor reason. Mine will happily wear orange, pink and baby blue but not red or green. Grey, beige and navy seem to be safe on the whole.

Mumof1andacat · 19/08/2023 14:23

My ds is 10. We buy from next, m&S, george at asda and h&m. O don't tend to buy expensive clothes as he grows all the time. Hair cut wise. Short sides, with a longer top. Sometimes, he wears it forward or sometimes swept to the side. He goes to the Turkish barber with his dad around every 8 weeks.

Mumof1andacat · 19/08/2023 14:26

Also, primark for t-shirts. Include him in what you're buying. Ds chose his T-shirts for this summer. He just gone into adult size 6 trainers, so that's more expensive now.

mandaley1 · 19/08/2023 14:46

Surf brands are these still worn by teens/pre teens or no longer? We are in South west and won't be too far from beach shortly if that makes any difference? Thank you

I think you can’t go wrong with dark colour/grey sportswear, try somewhere like Sports Direct. Or look on Vinted for Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Hype, The North Face etc. Let your son choose thought - maybe look through Vinted together and see what he likes? Haircuts, anything seems to go, short and smart or long and shaggy. My son’s hair is long-ish (shoulder length) and he’s never had any grief about it.

mumstheword1982 · 28/08/2023 21:01

Pretty much sport direct all the way as my dons favourite shop! Tra ksuit bottoms or shorts and a t shirt. The north face has some nice t shirts which look trendy too.
