My DS has sprouted a light moustache - dark hair but not very thick....he's 12.5years old.

He wants to shave.....thoughts?

This shouldn't even be up for discussion

Buy the poor boy a razor

Inastatus · 16/08/2023 20:59

If he wants to then I’d let him. Maybe you could get him an electric shaver which might be easier.

Moonberri · 16/08/2023 21:00

Why on earth wouldn't you want him to shave?

Hoppinggreen · 16/08/2023 21:01

Mine looked like Wolverine by then - he was actually told by his form teacher to shave (no facial hair rule).
He is now 14 and shaves around 3 times a week, his tache isn’t too bad but his sideburns and beard are impressive
If he wants to shave let him, just get him some decent kit

Hellocatshome · 16/08/2023 21:02

Why wouldn't you let him?

Marblessolveeverything · 16/08/2023 21:03

Of course but him a razor, what is the alternative?

Stillthewrongsideof40 · 16/08/2023 21:05

If he wants to shave then let him, Totally normal for that age, my son started shaving at about this age, he’s 14 now and needs to shave a few times a week.

MrsPepperp0t · 16/08/2023 21:06

Totally normal. I bought mine an electric razor at this age.

Megamopyeah · 16/08/2023 21:08

I’m another why wouldn’t you? It will get shaved either now or at some point.

Whatsthepoint1234 · 16/08/2023 21:08

Ds is 12, 13 next week and grows an impressive moustache. It’s unusual (ds is the only boy in his form with a deep voice) but within the realms of normal.

WallaceinAnderland · 16/08/2023 21:14

Are you thinking of telling him he can't shave and must wear facial hair OP?

Whatsthepoint1234 · 16/08/2023 21:17

Also OP he’s going to have to shave at some point so he might as well do it now.

Mumski45 · 16/08/2023 21:21

This is early but within the normal age range. I had to beg my 13 year old to shave for his older sisters wedding as he looked so scruffy with a half grown moustache and goatee looking wispy beard. If he wants to shave I would let him and show him how.

BoogLoaf · 16/08/2023 21:34

An electric shaver would be safer, rather than a razor. If he wants to get rid of it then he should be able to, all totally normal.

fullbloom87 · 16/08/2023 21:37

Err of course..
Why do you want him to look like captain birdseye or something??

Simonjt · 16/08/2023 21:40

It’s his face, if he wants to shave it he should be able to shave it.

Blueuggboots · 16/08/2023 21:54

I haven't said I won't buy him a razor, it just seems quite young to me, but obviously not.
I shall go shopping ASAP.

Gos no!! I hate facial hair on a man....but I just Bowery he's going to rip his skin off!

Dad's not around so uncle will show him...

Buy an electric rotary one then, AFAIK you can’t cut yourself on one of those. I don’t know any man who uses a bic razor, they just go blunt.

This should do the job.

Ohthatsabitshit · 16/08/2023 22:00

Dh says you should wait as long as possible if he wants a good thick moustache later. I have no idea if that’s true.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 16/08/2023 22:01

My 12 year old did too and just blurted out one day that he hated it. No dad around here either so I just found an electric one on amazon with decent reviews (about 25 quid).
It's very easy to use. I just showed him how to do the circular motion thing That I had seen on adverts (it was one of those ones with the 3 round heads on - batteries) - then I just showed him where it was in the bathroom and he hasn't had a tash since so obviously does it a couple of times a week. Definitely do it. They hate standing out at this age as you are right, I was surprised too - it seemed very young to me too!

And my DS too. He went through puberty early.

Seasidemumma77 · 16/08/2023 22:09

Youngest ds (15) has an impressive dark moustache if he doesn't shave twice a wk, (been like that since he was 13) not even the slightest sign of a beard hair though!

Both older ds (19 & 21) can grow a beard but not a moustache.

Its not, shaving doesn’t change genetics or hormones.
