Half an hour ago I found out that my 12 year old - who is unusually tall for her age - buys vapes for her friends. We had our suspicions but I now found her stash.

She does not know I know.

In the past we’ve talked about vaping from time to time, she admitted she tried it once, she didn’t like it, she knows it’s a horrible habit.

I’m planning to have a conversation with her tomorrow, I don’t think coming down on her like a tonne of bricks will help. Will be practicing deep breaths in the morning.

Thinking we ought to talk about why she does it, what effect it can have on her friends, what wil happen when they get found out.

How have you had these conversations before and what worked well?

I doubt she buys them. Any retailer would ask for id if she looks under 25 even if she is tall. More likely she's stealing them unfortunately.

Oh wow hadn’t even considered that

Totally incorrect. Many shops near me regularly sell to teens. My son sadly vapes he’s 17 and never gets asked for ID.

I doubt she's stealing them most vapes like all smoking products are behind the till which the shopkeeper has to reach and get and unfortunately some shopkeepers don't even bother to ask for id I know my corner shops don't my 15 year old little brother gets served and vaping is literally the craze right now for kids it's like the newest toy that everyone wants vaping is the new trend you can't walk down the street without seeing every kid with one and it sounds like your daughter is just following suit I wouldn't go down like a ton of bricks on her either she could of been easily influenced and she could of been caught doing much worse x

You need to find out where she buys them and report them to the police, trading standards and the local council's licencing department.
The more retailers prosecuted for selling these things to children the better, but unless they get reported they'll keep doing it
