Hi,

My daughter is 12. She is struggling with periods every 2-3 weeks (heavy) headaches, feels sick and exhausted. Also very emotional and anxious :( She’s had periods since she was 10 but the last 6 months been more regular.

I will be contacting the doctor for advice as have given it time for her periods to settle. Is anyone else’s preteens having the same issues? Any advice?

Every 2-3 weeks is hard if she's been having periods since she was 10. I would def speak to the GP and see what they say as that's very close together after 2 years on her periods. May daughter started this week aged 10 and it's been a steep learning curve.

I spoke to the GP. They said about blood sugar dips and gave me links for dietary changes to help. Also migraine medication (which worked) they said the only other option would be some sort of contraceptive medication but they would prefer not to use that yet.

So no real answers just “it takes time” hope your Dd is ok

My daughter sees a paediatric endocrinologist. She started age 10y8m and is now just 13. Periods ranged from 14-45 days for first 2.5 years and only recently have they reduced to 21-33 days. Defo still not regular though! The endo scans her six monthly and she's had various blood tests which have thankfully ruled out pcos. He says she will regulate (+_/ seven days) but for some girls it can be more like four years.

Glad they ruled out pcos. It’s such a shame for her as they are coupled with her getting migraines. I’m hoping they will become less frequent in time. The doctors have given medicine for migraine (not preventative but to treat attacks.)

I hope your daughters continue to improve
