Preteen hair removal

Hi all,

Relatively new here and I’m in need of advice. My daughter (age 11) started puberty just before 10 and she now has dark and noticeable underarm hair. I’m very much of the opinion that I do not want her growing up too fast but as she is going in to her final primary school year, I realise that other kids may start notice this and make fun of her. Kids can be so cruel at times. It’s obviously not an issue right now but I’m thinking about summer time when she may be wearing sleeveless tops.

How have other parents broached this? I don’t want to make her feel self conscious about having hair but equally want to avoid as best I can, unkind comments from other kids.

Thanks in advance!

Bought my daughter an electric shaver when she wanted to remove hair (aged 11). If she wants to remove the hairs, I would let her.

I assume she's got books on puberty. Buy a lady shave for her & let her decide

I was thinking the exact same thing this evening. My twin girls will be 11 in June and one of them in particular is quite hairy (including a little bit of a mono-brow and darker hairs on her top lip, not super noticeable but there nonetheless). I think I'll gladly remove the armpit hair but I have no idea how to get around the lip hair. I would never ever dream of mentioning it. She isn't particularly into her appearance, so I don't know whether she's noticed it but the thought of bitchy girls at high school taking the mick out of her really upsets me. This is a minefield!!

My DD is a bit older but there's been very little actual bitching about appearance between girls. (Big city comp)
They become more aware and peer pressure kicks in. They start doing hair & make up etc
Plenty of girls have facial hair, acne etc
Don't worry too much. They navigate it.

Buy her a razor and tell her it's for her to use if and when she wants to. If she never wants to, that's ok, too.
