public speaking course for 11 year old

Hi my 10 year old son is finishing Year 5. He is good academically, but shy when comes to public speaking and presenting his works. He will go to secondary school after an year. We visited that school recently and I am impressed with the secondary Year 7 & 8 kids - talking so freely and maturedly. I am thinking of joining my son in some public speaking course in Year 6, so that he is better prepared for secondary school. We live in Essex. Please let me know if you have any suggestion on good public speaking course providers, preferably face-to-face/classroom. Thanks

Can I suggest that the school probably put forward their most confident and outgoing pupils and that most kids under 13 are crap at public speaking?

I am not in your area but near me we have a junior lawyers club which I think also does online groups. It's not specifically public speaking but more presenting discussions, but very similar. There might be one near you.

That's a shame my DC state primary school built everyone's confidence up over the years to make even the most painfully shy ones more confident at public speaking as it were

Lots of full participation annual year group plays etc discussing a topic in front of the class

Maybe a local weekend drama group might help even if only for a term or so

And even for my DS who flat out refused to participate in any more plays after year 5 they got him to help with lights and sound

I'd second llamda or stagecoach.

I think that is a brilliant idea! I could have done with that when I was young.
However, I am not sure where to start. Local politicians, maybe?
You could try starting a small group yourself, guided by a book or video on the subject, suitably adapted. Participants would start by talking to one person, then gradually building up.
What to say? For ideas try searching online for funny insurance claims. We all laugh at the story of the unfortunate man who in 1888 was saving a woman from drowning and got his finger trapped in her corset!
Brilliant idea, and the best of luck.

I was looking for something like this when my DD was in year 5 and her school stopped offering extra curricular activities due to covid. I couldn't find anything local, so joined her up to Junior Lawyers Club. She loves it - there's public speaking within it, but it also teaches her about how law, democracy etc.

@tkparent - this appears to be more geared towards teachers , but my Ds's school did some of them - might be worth a rootle around the site www.esu.org
