Modibodi Question
LemonCake79 · 07/08/2021 20:20
Hoping for some advice on period pants having never worn them myself. DD has started her period, she is only 9. It isn't entirely unexpected as she's well developed for her age. She is using a lilets teen towel at the moment but is keen to try period pants.
I like the patterned ModiBodi Red ones. They feel closer to the knickers she would normally wear. They don't have the light to medium flow in stock her in size (she's very tall for her age but still slim so will want 8-10 years) but do have 'moderate to heavy'.
Her first period is light (I've not suffered with heavy periods either if that is relevant) and I know the pattered teen sizes can be hard to come by. Will she notice much difference if I get a heavy flow pair? Will they be bulkier.
Alternatively does anyone have other brands they can recommend that don't just do plain black?

Dd has the heavy flow and she's skinny, older but weighs 45kg. Not too bulky
Seagullslanding · 07/08/2021 20:42
I've bought my 11 year old the ladies size 8. Definitely not too bulky.
She also has a pair of WUKA that she really likes.
LemonCake79 · 07/08/2021 21:04
Thank you both, that's really helpful. I was put off by the wuka only coming in black and with her being so young I wanted her to have the usual patterned knickers girls her age would usually wear. Perhaps I am being silly though.
@Seagullslanding, DD is a little lighter at 41kg but at 5ft 6 her new wetsuit is a ladies size 8 with just a bit of growing room in it 😬
It sounds as though she'd be fine to try the medium flow ones they have in stock.

my daughter wanted the black ones. She doesn't have to worry about blood showing.
With modibodi if you sign up to their newsletter they immediately send you a discount code. The code did work against the multi packs. My daughter has 4 high leg and 3 of the short style. She wasnt impressed that i ordered the short style, but when she wore them in bed, she loved them. Since having them we have never had any accidents at night.
They really are great, my daughter is waiting assessment for ASD. Its not that obvious but it does mean that she can be clumsy and somewhat awkward at times. When she was wearing pads she was very self conscious about changing the pad and discreetly going to the girls toilet etc . She has had no problem with the pants. I know they will last her all day in school.

I'd recommend the cheeky wipes ones, although not sure what colours they come in. Very comfy and do a few different styles
IndieTara · 07/08/2021 21:35
My DD12 has various Modibodi pants but has heavy flow
We started off with the fun patterned ones but although they worked really well they do get stained.
She now just has black.

Hi my daughter 11 has just started. I had a pair of Thinx which work well and then ordered a pair from m and s (woman’s) size 8. You can try them and if they are too big return them. My daughter said they were comfy abd wash well. I then bought two pairs of modi bodi tween shorts which are colourful. Watermelon one on and ice creams on the other. These are linke shorts and def more bulky. But again comfy. Best of luck

DD had the moderate to heavy teen Modibodis when she was a similar weight and size. Definitely not to bulky, she wears towels at night which are more bulky.
LemonCake79 · 07/08/2021 22:45
Thank you so much for your replies. They are all really helpful.
We've ordered two pairs of the modibodi - ice creams and strawberries. DD says she is happy with black though so we will see how we get on with these and if she likes them invest in a full set of whatever colour she'd like. They are too expensive to take a punt on her preferring them to towels.
Poor little thing, she seems too young but she's taking it in her stride so far and I'm very grateful it's happened in the school holidays.

I've also just remembered primark now have their own version which might be worth a try. I've not used them personally but they looked much better value than the branded ones!

DD has these fir her lighter days. I bought them after reading a review on here

Thanks @Louisa4987 and @BunnyRuddington. I think i'm the only person in the UK who doesn't live close to a Primark and I usually get my fix when commuting to the office which I'm not doing regularly at the moment. I shall have to add these to the list for my next trip.

Also after some advise on the sizing for 11 yo whose skinny. Should I go for teen pack size 12-14 or adult bikinis size 6?
I like the idea of shorts at night.
Also thinking that size 6 will last for a very long time.
LemonCake79 · 12/08/2021 23:14
DD's have arrived. She is 9 and we went for 10-12. They fit her well so for her they are true to size.
Is there a size guide as I can't imagine there is much difference between 12-14 and a size 6.
toadstool32 · 14/08/2021 11:53
Dd is 11.5 and wears the smallest teen size - I think 8-10
Franticbutterfly · 26/08/2021 17:54
My girls have only worn their swim range and really got on with them.
Didiplanthis · 27/08/2021 18:12
I think if they are fairly straight up and down the teen sizes are better, if curvy the adult ones. The hip to waist ratio is different in the 2 ranges. Dd is in 12-14 teen, the waist size in ladies made the bum too baggy.
sadsack987 · 28/08/2021 21:45
This is a really useful thread. Dd1 started today - she's 11 and a half, always been quite skinny but is very sporty so quite muscled and increasingly curvy. A size 6 is too big on her really and she usually wears age 11/12 knickers.
She wants to try period pants as her friends use them. My question is how many pairs do you get? I am tempted to get a multi pack but that's a big outlay if they don't work/fit. But I can't see that just one or two pairs is practical if you can't tumble dry them? And at the rate she is growing I assume I'll have to replace fairly soon.
toadstool32 · 29/08/2021 12:21
@sadsack987 my 11 year old has seven pairs of modibodi. Yea definitely expensive but she feels so much more confident. We tried pads for the first cycle and she'll never go back now.
