When do DC stop wanting to wear coats?

DS is 11yo, just going into year 7. I typically spend a fair bit of money to buy him waterproof, cosy, rugged coats for the winter. He loves his newest coat and can't wait to wear it. A lot of the kids who go to the local high school walk past our house and I see them in the depths of winter with no coat or carrying their coats. What age does this start? (Wondering when I should stop spending quite do much money on them!)

Is it a boy thing? My DDs never stopped wearing a coat. In fact they liked a very cosy winter coat plus hats and scarves when they were teens.

Depends on the child the school etc. We live in the north of England and our contrary DD refused to wear a winter coat in year 7 and for awhile afterwards. Yet, last year in year 11 she hardly wore a winter coat in the winter but then often decided to wear a padded cot in the summer? Yet DS goes to a different school and has always worn one.

Hopefully he'll continue to be a cuddly little soul and wear his coat like a sensible person!

DS12 literally puts his waterproof North Face jacket in his backpack and it literally comes out and goes over his blazer if it rains for school.

He does have padded North Face and Nike winter coats but they tend to be worn more so out of school time.

DS - 4
DD - 11

To be fair there isn't actually space in their lockers at secondary school to store coats, so that would be a reason to stop if nothing else.

Ours don’t have lockers so need to carry everything round with them.
Dd has got fussy about taking a coat in y6 but ds doesn’t mind one in y9.

Neither of mine have worn them at secondary school unless its been below zero (going into years 11 and 13 at different schools now). They get too hot over blazers and jumpers, the lockers aren't big enough for them, they get lost/nicked off pegs and they are a nuisance to carry around all day. They don't seem to get cold waiting for buses or walking either.

They aren't allowed to carry round coats at DC's school. They have to put them in lockers or leave in a "coat room". Which is apparently a pain, hence no one does it.

Our dc's Highschool doesn't have lockers and so would have to carry the coat around with them all day
Along with books, stationary, kit when needed, cooking ingredients when needed etc our dc "can't be bothered" to carry it around all day.

He wears a t shirt under his shirt, jumper, blazer and will take gloves/hoody if it's cold. And it gets freezing here. Wish they'd just provide lockers tbh

When schools stop providing anywhere to store wet coats to drip off during the day. This often coincides with wearing blazers.
