Preparing for puberty

My DD turns 9 this month and it's dawning on me that I need to start preparing for change...and now realise that my own experience was a loooong time ago and things are very different these days, so I have a few questions!
I've definitely noticed hints of body odour recently when we had the really hot weather. Are there any great pre-teen style deodorants out there?
Where do you get 'first' bras from? Do you start with cropped top style underwear?
What are the best things to have in stock for first period? I've seen about period pants and wonder if they're easier than pads? Are there pads specifically for younger people?
Finally, what good books are there for girls to tell them about the changes they're going through?
Thanks in advance!

My dd aged 11 developed wears crop tops. Ones with padding in front.primark ladies section. I've only just bought period pants not worn yet as she's only just started and she wants to get used to pads. Aldi stuff or always.

I got this period starter kit for DD when she was 9.

I think Wuka stock preteen sized period pants if she wants to try those.

Oh and as for deodorant, we just bought regular roll on but it soon became apparent that she needed something more so switched to Mitchum.

And yes to crop tops once she starts to develop. The ones from Primark are fine Smile

DD is almost 11 and a half. She started needing deodorant just over a year ago and she just uses a Dove roll on because she loves the smell of Dove. She's just in the last month or so needed to start wearing something under her tshirts so I bought a selection of crop tops to see which were best. I got some from Tesco, Asda and Next. The Tesco ones are by far the nicest - they're nice thick material and give good coverage. I think it's 2 pink and a white for £5. The Next ones are her second favourites but not quite such nice material. The Asda ones are awful, far too thin and it doesn't cover anything under her tshirt. The Tesco ones are definitely best for modesty as she is a bit self conscious.

I have made her a little pack with wipes and a little teenage pad, I can't remember which brand the pads are. I got her a little bag from Amazon to keep them in, in her school bag, and that little bag goes everywhere with her - holidays, sleepovers etc. She's not started her periods yet though.

  • I mean 2 white and a pink in Tesco crop tops!

Sorry to jump on your thread OP, but my daughter has just started yesterday and I only found out when sorting the laundry this morning! 🥺
She's only 10 so I'm all over the place. I'm more concerned about how she will cope at school. Any other tips or advice would be most welcome. Thank you!

@BunnyRuddington thanks for that link. I think I’m going to get that. The wet bag - is it a smooth material or a rough, scratchy one? We have sensory issues here!

Lilets do teen sized sanitary towels.
I seem to remember buying a starter pack, from Boots, with a selection of all the towels and a booklet in.
I got a couple of different bras delivered from Next as she did t want to try on in M&S.

The best advice I could give is try and remember your first period and if it was awful heavy flooding the teen starter packs are useless 🙈.

I agree with the Mitchum deodorant advised and if they are sporty wash clothes at 40 as sometimes it's the clothes that smell not the child.
