11 year old, period pants?

My 11 year old DD just started her period. She's OK, think it's a bit grim and a nuisance but I've reassured her that whilst they can be a PITA it's totally normal and there lots of different types of sanitary products she could try to see which she finds most comfortable.

She's been using some panty liners as they seem to fit better in her underwear, she said the body form ones were too big and uncomfortable.

I've been looking at period pants? Are they any good for pre teens? I can't see to see many aimed at younger women.

I saw these on amazon but unsure if any good?

Does anyone have any recommendations? TIA

Modibodi do a range aimed at teens, I've not used modibodi but I've heard good things about them. I use cheeky pants, which I think are great, they do small sizes but they don't come in the fun prints that the modibodi ones do.
I'm a recent convert to period pants and I think they are brilliant, a real gamechanger in how easy my periods are to deal with. I wish they had been around when I was a young teen.

The ones you linked to are thin and flimsy so only any good if she’s very light flow. My 11 yo sadly isn’t a light flow and those pants didn’t really
Contain her flow.

Cheeky wipes do really good but expensive pants. They also do reusable pads in smaller sizes too if that’s something she’d be interested in.

DD has been using cheeky wipes pants for 2 years. She’s never used anything else in fact.
I think the trick is making sure you have enough to wear when you are washing/drying them as they do take a bit of trying - easier in the summer/winter.

Naturally lady on etsy do a great range of reusable pads if you are struggling to get the pants, I have found the reusable pads much more comfortable and absorbent - they are black too so not as grim

Sainsbury’s and modibodi here. There is a teen range in modibody but my 11 yr old was fine with a size eight.
They are alarmingly expensive.

My 11yo dd uses modibodi. They re much better than the cheaper ones and come in teen sizes. The swimwear is also great.

Modibodi are good but they’ve recently gone all “people who menstruate” rather than women and girls. As long as you don’t mind that they’re good (though the initial outlay is expensive).

AwFeebs · 31/07/2021 15:55

Thanks for all the recommendations, I'm a bit shocked at how expensive some brands are, I know it will save money in the long run it's just the initial outlay. 🙈

How many do people recommend to have?!

My daughter currently has 10 pairs. 9 modibodi and 1 WUKA.
They are fab, the reason we have so many is that they take ages to dry. They shouldnt go in the tumble drier, so either outside in summer or next to a radiator in cooler weather.

OneToThree · 31/07/2021 20:17

Dd 10 has 3 pairs of modibodi.

conkersarebonkers · 31/07/2021 20:32

My local authority is partnered with www.heygirls.co.uk/ and provides free menstrual cups and period pants to anyone who is in need and struggling to afford. The quality is great and Hey Girls are a social enterprise who do good work.

PizzaPiePizzaPie · 31/07/2021 20:40

We have 6 now. We had 3 when she first started. I’m considering getting another few pairs in a larger size

I just found this which has some period pants on sale. Might be useful?

dannyrojas · 03/08/2021 21:53

I am very grateful for this. I have twin 11.5 yr olds and Dd2 especially can't be more than a couple of months away from starting I'd say.

We have reusable pads - I have a set and use them but I must say I find them a bit wiffy - not whilst wearing but once I have rinsed them and put them through the machine they seem to smell stale. I don't want dds to feel paranoid about that. They are also quite bulky and slip about a bit.

Also the outlay! I would need to get 2 sets in different colour ways. Given how quickly they are growing it wouldn't be much of a saving if they need replacing frequently....,.

awkwardusername · 03/08/2021 21:55

The Primark ones are decent if she would fit into them, quite cheap (I think about £15 for a pack of three)

greensnail · 03/08/2021 22:02

Both my preteen girls use modibodi pants. They've definitely made the whole process so much more straightforward for them. I had one daughter start at age 9, and we have had to replace hers with a bigger size once, the other one started at age 12 and went straight into adult sizes which should last her a long time I think. We also bought some of the swimwear when they had a sale on which has been great as well.

Veryverycalmnow · 03/08/2021 22:02

They do seem tobe the way forward now. This is encouraging me to try some!
