How frequently do they play with board games and which games do they prefer to play? Thanks! Grin

Only if we make them. They quite like Exploding Kittens and Monsters Vs Babies (more card games than board games)

Everyone (3-11) plays board games here-most days during the holidays. Favourites are Catan, Pandemic, Forbidden Island, Century Spice. The 11 year old can now play more complex & strategic games like Agricala and The Village.
There is a huge range of board games designed for adults so lots available for 10+ and are a big leap from the 'babyish' orchard toy games for 3-9s.
Look at boardgamegeek for reviews of the different styles of games

My DD is 13 and we often play board games, usually Friends or Harry Potter ones.

Mamamia35 · 02/09/2021 22:14

Yahtzee is a fave here.

Risk
Samurai
Catan
Andor (cooperative) as is Switch and Signal
Big Money is quite daft but funny
Not a board game, something to do alone Turing Tumble
Scrabble
And 1000 piece jigsaws

12 and 10 here.
Catan, Flux, Rummicub, Labrinth, monopoly, (monopoly deal if I refuse the full game), plus card games.

We play board games every Sunday afternoon, have a lot of them so rarely play the same game twice in a quarter.

Recently we've been through Pac Man, Plants Vs Zombies versions of Monopoly & Yahtzee , Connect Four, Poetry for Neanderthals and Mahjong.

11&13 yr old here. We play Uno, uno flip and monopoly card games as a family. We have stacks of board games but the elder one is less keen now.

Lol, I saw Pandemic on sale and thought, no thanks - had enough of that lately!

We play Forbidden Island, which is good because it's not competitive. It never results in rows.
Also Dixit, a storytelling game, is fun & works for a mix of ages.
221B Baker St is good for Holmes fans.
Splendor is more of a trading game.
Exploding/imploding kittens is a big favourite. 11yo likes Throw Throw Burrito from the same company, although I haven't bought it because I don't want stuffed burritos thrown at me.
I've also heard Ticket to Ride is good although not tried it.

...and we also enjoy "silly scrabble" where you have to make up a new word with your letters, fit it on the board and then invent a funny definition. Like a mix between ordinary Scrabble and Balderdash. Even more fun if you get, like, 15 tiles per turn! (we don't keep score)
e.g. "henache" = the irresistible desire to lay an egg

We play a lot of board and card games as a family, and if they like that sort of thing 11 is old enough for complex games aimed at adults. The Board Game Geek website is useful.
Not all in favour at the moment but as a family we’ve gone through phases of:
Carcassonne
Kingdomino
Star Realms (2 player)
Sushi Go
Splendor
Seven wonders
Pandemic
Quacks of Quedlinburg
Coup
Pit
San Juan
Ticket to Ride
