Leg hair

My DD is 11, starting secondary school in September. She has recently stopped wearing shorts as she says her legs are hairy. Now she has very fair hair so it isn't overly noticeable, however she has started to become a bit self conscious about it.

She told me that some girls in her class shave their legs, but she's not keen on doing that at the moment.

What do your daughters do?
Are there better alternatives other than shaving or waxing? Ie hair removal cream etc.

Trying to figure out what will be best at that age and easiest for her to do and maintain

My DD shaved her (dark, very hairy) legs once aged 9. Decided she couldn’t be bothered with that faff and now just wears whatever she wants.

I have a beauty therapist on hand to wax them if she ever decides she wants to (suspect move from village primary to super secondary may prompt action). Pretty proud of her attitude to it. Grin

Sorry - Dd is nearly 11.

I used hair removal creams on DD from about 9 until she was 12 when I got her a razor.

Aww good for her! 😊

I don't really want her to shave yet, I have to do mine every couple of days if I want to keep them up together and it drives me mad - I dread to think how she will find it at 11

I've explained to her that she's lucky her hairs are so fair as you can't even notice them unless looking closely, but sadly she's not comfortable wearing shorts so I feel it's time to do something if that's what she wants

I'm thinking this is the route to take for now until she's a bit older. It seems like it will be easier for her (I think she's worried about cutting herself with shaving). How often do you find she has to do it with the cream?

I had the same thing. We did try the cream but it wasn’t good for DD.

I had my legs (and other areas) layered in the noughties so apart from a few stragglers that I tweeze every couple of months, I don’t have anything to deal with. DD wants lazer the minute she’s old enough.

DD (12) uses hair remover mitts (can get them from Amazon) - less faff than shaving, no stubble, and lasts for a few weeks. Doesn't get rid of all the hair but plenty good enough.

@NavigatingAdolescence honestly if I had daughters with dark hair I would invest now in a Philips Lumea as it will save you tons of money in the long run. I now only have about five hairs on each leg. My sister has two daughters and I persuaded her to get one and she's so glad she did.

I only shave my own leg hair every couple of weeks and I only shave to just over the knees. Dd shaves hers sporadically and has done since she was 11ish

I bought DD12 a ladyshave. Works a treat. She loves it!

I have one already. :)

Not a patch on the medical grade ones though.

Is this expensive do you know? Could be tempted for myself, I HATE shaving my legs, and it seems to grow straight back a few hours after I've done it 🙄

I think I paid about £1k for full legs and underarms, then another £350 for bikini. But that was 15 or more years ago.

If she doesn’t want to shave, would she tolerate a wax? Hair free for a good 6 weeks.

Hair removing cream is ok, my dd used to use it but it’s messy and smelly.

Dd uses a hair removal mit from Superdrug. She’s happy with the results. I’ve got a Lumea which I love but at the moment dd has very fair leg hair so no point her using it.

These - works really well on fine teen hair

Thanks all.
We used the cream and she was happy with that so I think that will be the way forward for now. I have also ordered some of the mitts to try

My older teen uses the cream and has done for several years now so I’m guessing it works for them. They have dark hair, more coarse than fine so I didn’t think it would work but I guess it does (just realise I don’t look at their legs)? Not sure if they use it on underarms, guessing they would as they don’t have a razor I’m aware of and I don’t recall noticing hairy underarms.

Before the cream they used a hair removing pad from one of those tv sales things. Was useless. Wasn’t a mitt (no idea what those are or how they work), but was a plastic thing with handle with a surface you rubbed over legs. Complete waste of $$.

We had an electric razer and then these last few months she uses my razor with shaving foam she starts comp in sept. Don't be that overly strict mum shave them for her first few times

I don't mind her shaving, she is the one who doesn't want to do it. I think she's worried about cutting herself. I have offered to do it for her and show her but she's not ready to try it as yet which is fine. She tried the cream and was happy with that so will carry on with that until she's ready to give it a go

If they are the same as silky mit that were about in the late 90s/00s I wouldn't recommend. Literally sandpapering your legs.

Maybe they have moved on
