Shaving

Hello, tonight my 9 year old (year 5) daughter has asked if she could start shaving her legs. I'll be honest in that it caught me of guard for some reason and I hadn't given it much thought before. We have had a few open conversations around puberty and periods lately so she's aware of what's coming. I just have no idea when a normal age to start shaving legs is. I think I would have been around year 6 so age 10/11. Does that sound right? I just said that I would give it some thought and let her know what I've decided (in a nutshell) should I push her for another year or 2 or respect that she has asked and talk her through it instead of her doing it behind my back?

I think if she’s actively asking about it then I would let her. It’s a hard enough age as it is without things that are preventable like that adding to it Smile

I think my dds were both around the end of y6.

I’d probably try and make her wait a year or so if she’s fair haired. But if her hair is very noticeable and she’s self conscious about it I’d let her.

She’s asked - it’s her body so let her. Far better she knows how to do it with the right equipment than is ashamed or does it with dirty blades (dad’s razor anyone?) in secret.

Thank you all. I've slept on it and I'm going to let her. It just felt a bit young but I could tell she was embarrassed to ask so I don't want her to not then come to me for other things. She is dark haired so it is noticeable so I guess she is just becoming aware of it. Thanks again.
