Any advice re. 8yo DD negative outlook?

Our DD1 tends to look on the negative side of things and I think it's getting worse. (Not Coronavirus related, just generally eg. Her best friend got a very long awaited dog but DD refuses to hear about it as she says she wanted one and insists her friend is boasting - but she really isn't 😕) She can be incredibly kind and sweet but I feel she's going more the other way.

We have tried to explain in so many ways that being happy is so much to do with our outlook on life, but she is even becoming resentful of other people's happiness and I'm finding that hard to manage. Any tips or ideas on how to approach this would be really gratefully received.

It is a really difficult one when you don't really know why.

Have you spoken to her teacher or SENCO? Do they have any suggestions?

Have a look at A Mighty Girl, they have a few book suggestions which you might find helpful Thanks

Thank you so much for this! They look like great resources and I've ordered a book! Really appreciate your help @JiltedJohnsJulie ❤️

No problem at all. We often go to A Mighty Girl at times of trouble. When she's a bit older they have some great books on friendships, puberty and periods and can I recommend the book Untangled for you for when she does hit puberty?

It was recommended to me by my DSIL who bought it through them. DN is a bit older than my DD and it's helped us both to understand and guide our DDs Smile

This book is also very good - ‘What to do when you grumble too much’

Thank you both so much @JiltedJohnsJulie and @SuperSleepyBaby! So helpful. I will get both those books. I love getting parenting book recommendations. Ones I've had in the past have really affected the way I parent - for the better- (One of my favourites is 'Simplicity Parenting' not about moods but more about environment.)

Thanks again and hope you're all doing ok with lockdown xx
