Hello Smile

Has anyone ever sent their kids to PGL?

My daughter has a school trip to PGL coming up so I was reading the website. I noticed that do residential trips for kids in the summer and suggested it to my daughter in a jokey way assuming she’d automatically say no....but she seems keen.

Although I think it would be a good way to build her confidence, meet new kids and hopefully break the summer holiday up a bit I’m quite anxious about leaving my kids somewhere...overnight...for several nights...with people I don’t know. I know this is something they specialise in and as long as what’s advertised on the website is actually what it’s like, it should be lots of fun. However, my daughter is quite sensitive so I can just picture her not liking it, being close to/ in tears the entire time if it’s not quite what she was expecting or she gets grouped with people she doesn’t get on with. Her brother would also be going, but they wouldn’t be in the same room and I’m assuming different activity groups because of their age gap. Its just over an hour drive away so if they really hated it I could just drive and pick them up (although I wouldn’t be telling them that as I don’t want them to not give it a chance). On the other hand they might end up absolutely loving it-this is what I’m hoping.

It looks like the only “first time” breaks they have available locally are for 7 nights, so we’d be booking a regular break for 4 nights/5 days.

Does anyone have any recent experience of PGL breaks (not school/family trips)?

Not recent, but my dc did pgl several times 20 years ago.
I think there are reviews on their website.
My dc loved it.

Hi

My daughter has been on eight 7 night PGL multi activity holidays on her own and absolutely loves it. She feels safe and secure, makes loads of new friends and the staff have always been fantastic and very caring when needed.

She went on her first holiday to Caythorpe Court when she was 7 years and 1 week. I was much more nervous than she was.

I have never paid full price for a holiday as there are always a lot of offers if you hold your nerve. If you get some money off it is a total bargain.

Any specific questions please ask away.

My DD went last summer when she was 12 for a full week. She went with a friend though. They are going again this August. She absolutley loved it.. she made lots of new friends. She is very outgoing though and loves doing all activities. My eldest DD would hate it!
Its very well organised. They do activities from first thing in the morning and are busy every day. Look for offers to... half price I think for first timers. They also do buy 1 get 1 free which is what we have done both years, so its half the normal price.

From your description of your DD, wouldn't you be better off doing PGL for the first time with school where she has friends and adults she knows. Then, if she wants to go again, consider it for next summer?

Is there something she could do for a week more locally? e.g. My DD does a week Stagecoach each summer, it runs 10-4 each day and they put on a musical at the end of the week. (She doesn't do Stagecoach in term time.)
