Period pants - with or without pads? For young dd

My dd has recently started her periods- it's been quite a while since I've had one (coil) so I've been looking around and there are so many new things out there! I looked at modibodi period pants but am a bit confused- are they instead of a pad? Or with one? She's refusing tampons for now although I'm sure that will change in time.
Thanks!

It's like washable nappies for adults
Yes, exactly! We used washable nappies and I use washable sanitary pads.
I've got a few pairs of period/incontinence pants now (oh the joys of being female), I don't like the modibodi ones though, they feel really wet and unpleasant to me.
I would try thinx but for the fact they don't call women women any more.
I have bought my DD some cheap teen ones from amazon to try but will also look at cheeky wipes.

Also a brand called Wuka

They’re great, really absorbent and feel “dry”, also very comfy. Rinse them out and stick them in the washing machine. You can buy a small wet bag for out and about. I have one with a clean pair in the bottom of my bag. They hold a very heavy flow for ages so I doubt you’d need to change at school. Totally brilliant as far as I’m concerned.

I am delighted to read all of this and so pleased for dd that things have moved on so much. When i was her age we'd only just progressed from those things with belts ShockConfused

They have 20% off with the code PRIMEDAY tomorrow and Tuesday.

I bought a pair for DD to try, and a pair for myself to try and I'm impressed with them. I bought the light flow because I'll be using them as backup for a Mooncup, they really just feel like pants which is great. I've been using washable pads up until now which have been bulkier than I really want, but I can't wear disposables which would be thinner because they make me itchy.

That's Modibodi that have the discount tomorrow and Tuesday, didn't mention the brand, sorry.

Ouch44 · 14/07/2019 23:54

Thanks for that. Might buy myself a pair to try.

Recently bought a pair of cheeky wipes for my DD. Got a starter kit actually which contains pants, a pad and reusable wipes for £19ish. Don't know how they perform but they feel lovely. The absorbent bit doesn't feel as thick as I was expecting.

I have bad memories of leaking at school in the pre-wings days! These pants seem so good

Do they work for periods with lots of clotting?

christinarossetti19 · 27/07/2019 14:11

Do people generally recommend Modibidi for youngsters?

My dd is 12 and I think it's going to be a while until she starts her periods, but I so remember the worry about 'leaking' at school etc and would like to get her a few pairs as back up to pads.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 28/07/2019 13:19

That's what I've done for my DD christinarosetti19. I won't know how useful they are until she starts her periods, but I reckon that at least at the start her periods will be light enough that she won't have to deal with pads at all if she's wearing her Modibodi.
