Boys Puberty and deodorant

Hi,

I have an eight year old boy who quite frankly has smelly underarms. I am kind of freaking out as he has only just turned 8 and seems a bit young for puberty but I can not deny the smell.

So if there is anyone else out there that can recommend a child friendly underarm deodoran tto use on a 8 year old boy please let me know.

And yes he does have frequent washes especially in this warm weather.

By 8 I would think that a anti bacterial sure roll on would do, aerosol if you think he can do it.

My DS is the same aged 7 and I was worried about it, no matter if I washed him twice a day there would still be a problem! . I just started with a quick spray of my Sure Cotton Fresh and he's fine all day long now. Watching with interest though if someone can recommend a specific kid friendly one.

Jason are good, and .I think Tesco do one dor younger teens/children.

DS needed it at that age, and I can't remember the name, but I got a natural roll on for him. At 13, frankly, I need all the chemicals possible to live with him and his school blazer so he has a mitchum stick and plentiful Lynx spray

I have ordered one from the amazon and will try it, he could use one of mine but they are all perfumed so will have to see. It just seems to young to be using one.

But the smell is pretty bad so something has to be done about it, as he wasn't doing anything sporty today so guess it must be time to accept he is going to need something more than soap and water.

He went to school this morning with a little bit of mine under his arms, i tested it on the back of his hands and had a discreet word with the teacher in case of any allergic reaction developing leter on today.

He was quite happy with it, i made sure it was the least smelling one I could find and no purfume added to it so fingers crossed.

I can recommend Bionsen 24h deodorant, which is for sensitive skin, aluminium, paraben and alcohol free. Both DC started using it aged 8.

I think they go through stinky phases, perhaps related to hormonal surges.
DS had really smelly pits for a while aged 9 and we got his some deodorant but it definitely settled down and now he can get away without it although we are trying to encourage habit of daily use.
I think thorough washing with soap instead of shower gel helped a lot too.

LoafofSellotape · 21/07/2019 23:13

Boys often have a hormonal burst at this age then settle down again ime. Ds used a simple roll on.

Notnownotneverever · 21/07/2019 23:21

I second using some antibacterial soap instead of shower gel. It does help.

Ihatesundays · 21/07/2019 23:28

DD has periods of stinky-ness between 7-10 and periods of not smelling at all.
Now aged 10 it’s settled into being a permanent thing it seems.

I first noticed this in my son when he was about 6... I was horrified and actually mentioned it to the GP as I thought he was starting puberty early!! The GP said that everyone sweats, and if it isn't able to evaporate then it would start to smell... Not helped by high percentage of polyester in school uniform.

I firstly bought an all natural roll on, but it was quite sticky, wet and gloopy. So we then tried a lynx roll on deodorant stick- the kind that looks a little like a bar of soap. And at the moment he had a sure sensitive aerosol one.

He washes with proper soap in the shower each morning and most evenings after he swims.

I try to buy 100% cotton wherever possible. Clean clothes each day.

Problem solved.

P.S I also hated the idea at first as he seemed far too young. But actually, it's no big deal, far better taking the 30 seconds each morning and smelling nice all day!!

Ds used a Sanex roll on. Deodorant sprays not allowed at his school.
