Pubic hair removal/neaten

I know that there have been lots of threads re underarm and leg hair removal, but my DD(10) is realllllly bothered by her pubic hair, of which she has quite a lot (although no leg/underarm hair which is strange!)

She's nearly 11, and is going on a couple of holidays, and is embarassed going swimming as it's now creeping outside of her bikini bottoms/swimming costume. I've suggested the shorts type, but they're few and far between.

I can't even contemplate removing it as it's a bloody pain when it grows back, even for adults - would anyone do anything different?

What would she like to do/try?

I personally dont think the shorts type are that hard to get are they? Debenhams have a lot? online? eBay? might be an annoying struggle but only once a year?

I'm amazed what a difference to my life it's made to have some pubes waxed. If you think you can possibly afford it, take her to someone experienced with a view to just keeping it within bounds, eventually learning to do it herself. If not, then shaving and exfoliation?

Takinis are everywhere I would go for that instead of faffing about with hair removal . She could shave I guess but I wouldn't take it all off.

PerspicaciaTick · 28/05/2019 16:14

Trim the stragglers with a pair of scissors.

azulmariposa · 28/05/2019 16:16

Hair removal cream would be easiest, and doesn't usually cause problems growing back. But do a skin test first!

WhereForArtThouBray · 28/05/2019 16:17

I woukd go for hair removal cream.

ISayWhatNow · 28/05/2019 16:18

I gave both mine razors when they were old enough and bothered about hair. Then I left it up to them to decide where they wanted to shave (also discussed different hair removal methods which were tried and were rejected).

As a side note, I read your op as "Public hair removal" 😂

Potplant · 28/05/2019 16:20

what does she want to do? Let her decide if she wants to remove it.

My mum wouldn’t let me have my legs when I was that age and I hated it. Cut myself to ribbons with my dads razor.

Can I just say that swim shorts are basically on-line only. I have been looking for a few months and was shocked that so few shops sell them.

LoafofSellotape · 28/05/2019 16:21

There's no way I'd encourage a 10 year old to use hair removal cream, chemical burns, ouch!

I'd suggest a lady shave but tbh swim style shorts aren't hard to find if you Google.

Mrsjayy · 28/05/2019 16:28

My dds are adults now they liked longer length as kids i used to get them in Asda or Matalan they were never hard to find they also had lady shavers/razors by the time they were 12 so thry could shave or not it was up to them.

Dollygirl2008 · 28/05/2019 16:30

Thanks all - I think you're right - I'd prefer her not to do anything just yet. If it was underarm hair, I'd just let her use a ladyshave, but it just seems so sensitive down there. I'll look for swim shorts online - only for the next couple of years and then I'm sure she'll do what she wants anyway!!!!!

I just can't bear the thought if her little skin being waxed!!!!!

Mrsjayy · 28/05/2019 16:34

You are right she doesn't need to wax if she is self concious just get her someshorts I think some girls prefer them anyway

sergeilavrov · 28/05/2019 16:42

I'm quite small and dip in and out of the kid's section for clothes. Try getting a swimsuit with a skirt, it'll cover the area around her thighs while being fun and cute. I've got an age 10-11 from H&M, as well as a 00 from Oysho - both in nautical theme. The difference was noticeable in quality, but depends on your budget.

I'm not sure about hair removal cream, it seems so heavy handed on sensitive skin and the smell Shock

littlemeitslyn · 28/05/2019 18:56

Google swim shorts

BarbarAnna · 28/05/2019 18:58

Speedo do great legsuits?

BarbarAnna · 28/05/2019 18:59

Sorry hit post too soon - might they work for her?

ImTheCaddy · 31/05/2019 00:21

DD uses a trimmer to just keep it all under control. Doesn't remove it, just trims it all down. Makes a big difference.

I do the same so she just asked if I could get her a trimmer. It was really cheap.

MummyBear2352 · 31/05/2019 14:11

I have a little 'trimmer' that both myself and dd use for downstairs maintenance...it's not the same as removal, just trimming, and neatens dd enough that any growth outside the bikini line is not so noticable. Also means when dd gets her period it's a bit easier to keep fresh (too young to use anything but pads at the moment).
