Blackheads!
Dollygirl2008 · 22/05/2019 19:41
Hi DD is 10, 11 in September. Fairly advanced physically (boobs, periods etc) and has two huge blackheads on her nose - have been there for a few months. She uses cetaphil oil free cleanser to keep clean they're persistent
Any ideas?

I would go against all advice and squeeze them. IME, a blackhead allowed to grow until it pops out of its own accord leaves a crater in the skin which never goes away.

I really love those blackhead strips you can get from home bargains. Steam first then apply. They’re really good!

Take her to a beautician for a proper steam / deep clean.

My son is the same. We use those biore strips (such disgusting fun!) then various blackhead scrubs. We have a teen facial booked for him next week where they literally squeeze the shit out of them all. I shall report back.

You can get a tool to remove them. Try not to do it with fingers.

We have a similar set. Best after a shower when pores are open. She can do it herself but tell her to be gentle so as not to mark skin.

You can do a home facial
Hot shower, clean face with facial wash. Then clean it again with a warm flannel and some heavy face cream.
Lay a very warm clean flannel over face to steam. Then with very clean hands and no nails, gentle press the black heads out with the pads of your fingers wrapped around a clean Muslin
Wash and cleanse face again, apply some toner. Leave to settle then apply some moisturiser. Do this before bed so she won’t then be fussing with her face.

Oooh butdoyouavacado - let us know how it goes!!
Thanks for all the great suggestions - do you think they're all ok for her as she's only 10?
Dollygirl2008 · 22/05/2019 19:59
Just to add - if it were my face, I'd squeeze the hell out of them and enjoy it but I'm worried about her delicate skin
Buffymum · 22/05/2019 20:04
Good advice I found on mumsnet was to avoid scrubs of any kind . My daughters skin improved lots once we stopped . We did home facial with good results .
Atalune · 22/05/2019 20:13
I think you you should deal with the blackheads.
And please post a pic here!
boxlikeamarchhare · 22/05/2019 20:18
When DD had a couple of persistent huge blackheads it was because there was a layer of dead skin on top of them. She switched to my no7 hot cloth cleanser. The cloth action exfoliates really gently, I squeezed them after a warm bath and they had never returned.
Exfoliation is key but really gentle imo, flannel rather than scrub.
boxlikeamarchhare · 22/05/2019 20:20
Should say, squeezed really gently with fingers rather than nails from half a centimetre away. Big deal for me as that sort of thing turns my stomach!
MummyBear2352 · 23/05/2019 12:51
You can get a little metal tool with a circle that you press hard around the blackhead and then pull down to pull the blackhead out x
reluctantbrit · 24/05/2019 09:08
We use a mix of a exfoliator which doesn't scrub (my Elemis one), herbal mask in general and charcol masks if it gets really bad and a facial on a regular basis.
We tried the nasal stripes and DD had terrible issues getting the black stuff of her nose.
LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 24/05/2019 09:11
DH has one just above his lip. Not sure if a strip would work there?
lotusbell · 02/06/2019 15:36
I'd steam the face for a few minutes to open the pores then try and gently ease it out with tissue over fingernails
megletthesecond · 06/06/2019 21:18
I've squeezed my dc's ones after a shower. They come out so easily.
I told them I'm their beautician for a few years. Better for me to do it carefully than they prod their skin around and irritate it.
Fullfatlatte · 09/06/2019 20:01
Please don’t squeeze them, use pore strips or charcoal peel off masks! The best thing to use is Salicylic acid (a BHA), I dab the BHA liquid from Paula’s choice on my son’s nose where he gets blackheads & they go fairly quickly. He also uses a mild fragrance free hydrating cleanser called CeraVe. Don’t use any harsh like Clerasil etc. Look up Caroline Hirons, she had great advice.
