Period pants

Does anyone can recommend a good brand? DD is 11 but wears 14-15 in knickers or adult size 6.

She is terrified of her period after she bled through last month and stained her school skirt. She is also extremely embarrassed to change pads at school so I thought these pants give her some extra cover but I am reluctant to part with £££ and they don't work.

Modibodi are excellent or just regular black pants

bettybyebye · 26/03/2019 15:26

Modibodi keeps coming up on my Facebook feed, they have a 30 day free trial at the moment

cuckoonest · 26/03/2019 22:36

I got some modibodi pants for my 11yo y have been a great success, but they aren't cheap. We got 3 pairs to start with but then you really do have to keep on top of washing daily. Otherwise, in the interests of research for my daughters as they grow up, I bought myself some cloth pads and tampons, and have been very surprised to find them about 100% more comfortable than their disposable equivalent, and, for the bloom n Nora pads, a lot more leakproof and absorbent.

Champagnebrain · 26/03/2019 22:42

I think Wuka pants are better than Modibodi.

JumpingFrogs · 26/03/2019 22:52

My girls have modibodi. I just bought them one pair each to try initially. They have heavy periods so prefer the more absorbent classic bikini. No leaks at school and no more leaking onto the sheets at night. Daughters put them into the machine when they have 2 soiled pairs. Quick rinse cycle and then a wash (no fabric softener), and they are dry by the time they need a clean pair (so they manage with 3 pairs in total)

DifferentDrum · 28/03/2019 14:23

Those of you who recommend these, do your DDs just wear the pants or do they still wear pads/tampons as well?

reluctantbrit · 28/03/2019 19:27

Thanks. I think DD wants them as a back up or for PE, not yet wearing them on its own.

Cloth pad - she was a cloth nappy baby so I would normally be ok with it but I think with being outside the house from 7.30am - 4pm she would have to change too often and is still even too embarrassed getting her pack out of her back, no way she will carry used pads around. I also don’t like the idea myself for work days/being outside.

I may get one each and see which style she likes more and go from there.

Lara - black pants may not show a stain but still leak through to her skirt/trousers. She has several navy blue ones but that’s not a solution for leaks.

The Wuka pants have a much larger absorbent area.
Longer to the front and back. I bought a few different brands lat year to try.

JumpingFrogs · 29/03/2019 14:15

My girls wear the more absorbent modibodi from when they get up till bedtime. They have quite heavy periods so with disposable towels they would have changed them several times a day. They are so absorbent that they fell completely fresh and dry all day. No problems at all at school. You literally just wear them like any other pair of knickers.

bellinisurge · 17/04/2019 06:42

Wuka or Modibodi.
My dd has just started and, unexpectedly, loves the funky pattern cloth pads I bought her in advance. We will be making some ourselves to match the size, fit and style she wants. Loads of info online, particularly YouTube. I started my interest in it watching Precious Stars channel on YouTube. Cool, friendly straightforward young woman . Sure I have seen one where she vlogs about dance class and periods.

reluctantbrit · 17/04/2019 09:32

To you who suggested modibodi, how is the sizing? DD wears 13-14 in jeggings and 15-16 in M&S underwear (just moved into them, i think they are on the big side).

My dd is sometimes an adult size 6, sometimes a size 8. I went for one of each. She hasn't actually used them yet - she's horse riding tomorrow and will use them for that. I will let you know.

bellinisurge · 18/04/2019 12:16

Hi, size 8 Modibodis are working well for my dd (12). She is about a 6-8 adult size normally (13/14 or a bit smaller in junior sizes) and I think she has room to grow in these iyswim, but they seem comfy and secure.
She was really pleased when I said she could use these for school. Obviously we'll see how her flow develops as this is her first period. I also bought her a pair of Wuka ones.

reluctantbrit · 18/04/2019 15:36

Thanks. DD also rides, good to know that they work as she isn't keen on pads if she is at the stables all day (toilets are really bad). Her PE shorts are also on the tight side, like cycle shorts and she said she can see pads on some of the other girls.

Of to show them to her.

Same issue with stable toilets here Grin

bellinisurge · 18/04/2019 15:49

Modibodi also do boyshort style ones that look like short cycling shorts if you see what I mean. I have ordered a pair of those for her too.

reluctantbrit · 18/04/2019 16:28

Just ordered. We will see how it works out and then order more.

I do hope they last a while. I think I spend a fortune just on underwear this holiday thanks to growing boobs and period.

I agree dd has shot up and her shape has changed in a short time. Tbe ordinary knicks I bought less than six months ago are too small. She likes to wear a pair of ordinary knicks in bed with a T-shirt and I usually buy a size bigger for that so it's all loose and comfy . They are my "back up" if her daytime knickers get too small.

Cheeky wipes have an offer on their site at the mo for 25% off everything. Only a few days left I think
