Hi - just that really. DD started her periods a few months ago (10 yrs) and is struggling with the pads (a few kinds) in that the make her area sting or itch. I'm hoping she'll start using tampons in the coming months, but until then, does anyone have any advice or experience in this area? Thanks in advance

Bodyform unscented in the pink pack.

There's a pad company called TOTM which use organic pure cotton for their pads, I'd check them out as I found them to be so much comfier and less irritating than the common plastic-y ones. Also a moon cup might be a good shout, at least for home use (rather than school where you have communal bathrooms) - instead of cotton tampons which can dry you out. Hope this helps.

Definitely make sure she has unscented and changes them regularly Smile

Yes to unscented...increasingly hard to find! Often the own brand ones are unscented. And reusable might be worth a try? Have a look at cheeky wipes. I’ve heard on here tampax pearl are very easy to start with once she wants to try.

Thanks for the replies. I've also just bought some Always infinity which are made with "smart foam" whatever that is, but she seems a bit happier. We have stack of the other ones left, but she's suggested we take them to the homeless charity which seems sensible

Yes, the tanpax pearl do seem to be good - still a bit nervous as to whether she is too young tho but maybe that a just me being precious!!!!!

Waitrose do a range called Natracare, they are made of organic cotton and perfume free.
They are pretty much the only ones I can use without irritation

Always sensitive.

My dd has just started and , more in hope than expectation, I got her some funky patterned reusables. She really likes using them .
We are both handy with a needle and I have a few patterns and some appropriate fabric . I want to help her customise pads for size, style etc and help her make them.
Look at Precious Stars Pads on YouTube for ideas. Really cool straight talking friendly young woman. She eventually started her own business and has a good budget range.

Thanks! That sounds brilliant! She's away at the moment but will def look into that!

Has anyone tried aloe vera oil? it is safe for a child of 8 months

azulmariposa · 19/04/2019 11:30

Lil-lets teen range is really good. The tampons are better than tampax.

Namechangedcositstime · 19/04/2019 11:36

Always sensitive is good. And usually cheaper too.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 19/04/2019 11:41

Always sensitive or body form make sure they are the unscented ones.
Dd was 11 when she started and used the lilet teen pads for a while but now prefers always. She wouldn’t even contemplate tampons at 13now.
However be careful as I find since tampax pearl changed design that the string can irritate my sensitive skin.

I had itchiness, water infections, & yeast infections on a regular basis basically from the time all the major manufacturers started selling products with gel / foam cores, odour reduction stuff, & scented pads. (About 20 years.) I switched to cloth pads & a cup in my mid 30s, & it instantly got better.
