Help how does my daughter escape this friend

Hi
Any ideas please help.
Basically my daughter is 12 and this girl (who NO ONE likes) - I'll call her grace - follows her round at school day in day out.

My daughter is the only one who gives grace the time of day and so she's latched onto her.

It's actually at the cost of her other friendships though, as her friends have started being off with her weeks ago and ignoring her etc. My daughter was upset and couldn't understand why.

Weeks later I got school involved as things weren't getting any better and my daughter felt like she only had this grace speaking to her.

I must say my daughter doesn't actually like this grace she just feels sorry for her as no one likes her. Anyway school got involved and 3 of her friends admitted they have actually fallen out with her because this grace follows her everywhere and they can't be doing with her.

They admitted it was an awful thing to do to my daughter.

My daughter has now told me she wants to get this girl to stop following her around but she doesn't know how to stop the friendship in a nice way.

She's upset that she doesn't like grace and being kind to her has affected her friendship with her friends and to be honest I don't know what to suggest?

Any ideas much appreciated and thanks for reading.

The school told my daughter to be honest and just say that they are very different people have nothing in common and like different things. She said she will still speak to her and be there for her if she needs anything but that she thinks it's best they both try and make new friends.
I've since founds out by school that grace is actually slagging people off and whispering about them to my daughter - my daughter is feeling awkward and doesn't know what to say or do so just ignores it and that's why the other girls don't speak to my daughter as they thought she was slagging them off too. The teacher found this out. Grace has been offered other support too. My daughter is like a different child she came home today cried and said it's like a weight has been lifted. She felt sad for grace but said she's sure she'll find other friends in time x

Tell Grace to fuck off, best thing to do.

Poor grace has no friends. That is sad but also not your daughters problem. No one is obliged to be friends with grace which sucks for her but again is not your daughters problem. Tell your daughter that there is nothing wrong with standing up for herself, there is nothing wrong with being honest "I'm sorry grace but I don't like the way you talk about other people and I don't want to spend time with you"

We had a boy like this in my class, everyone thought he was weird. He was lovely, just different.
He tired to get involved in making friends but everyone brushed him off and took the piss.

He came in one day after being off for a while with bandages on his wrists. I never asked, but I assume he had self harmed?
I started talking to him to help him feel more included and he said he didn't have any friends, I wouldn't day we became friends but we talked in class and if occasionally message him on Facebook and have a conversation. I hate people feeling alone and unincluded for any reason. My friends started taking the piss out of me when I started talking to him, but they eventually got bored and ran out of jokes.

You never know what someone is going through, if this girl isn't a bad influence, or hard core drug addict then maybe your DD and her friends should at least try..

No-one deserves to be bullied.

Also. What if the girl 'nobody likes' was your DD, OP?

ShortandSweet96 · 03/01/2019 21:54

Sorry OP, I missed your comment about her slagging people off!

Nethertheless, do you think she does it to try and make conversation? I have teenage girls in my family and they relentlessly slag people off like it's a hobby and they almost fuel eachother!

Us girls are strange creatures.
