What age do you stop choosing your childs clothing?

Hi,

I'm thinking of setting up a page selling second hand childrens clothes. I have a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old and i regularly buy second hand clothing. I'm not sure what age i should go up to. When would you say you had to stop choosing your childs clothing? Any advice greatly appreciated.

DD was 5 when she started to take an interest.

I still choose most of my 12 year old's clothes and buy many of them second hand. I know what he likes and if not sure I ask him. He has no interest in shopping for clothes.

My daughter is 4 and has been very particular with what she wears for around a year now. Because i know what she likes (dresses) i can still buy her clothes. I'm thinking of only selling second hand clothes up to about 10/11yrs, maybe even 8/9 yrs . I'm not sure if there would be as big of a demand for that age group.

Cachailleacha - Thank you. Maybe worth looking into then. Maybe i'll get a few bits for older children and see how it sells. No harm in trying.

I think regardless of who chooses the clothes, the parents still pay right? So children can look through your selling page and choose what they like.

I still buy clothes for my teens. They show me what they like or the styles they want and I do the stretching and buying.

I am a 12yo boy and my mom still buys and chooses my clothes. I am not yet quite interested in clothes and I do not have a favorite style, but my parents do ask me if I like the clothes they choose.

My DH is 31 and would probably still let his DM buy his clothes. Some people never take much interest.

My DD is 7 and for the last few years will only wear what she chooses. However there is no problem with 2nd hand.

I have 3 DS's. Eldest is 13. They will all happily wear second hand, often they prefer it, because the clothes are softer than new clothes.
They hate shopping. Are perfectly happy for me to do it, as long as I stick to their preferred styles. (Jogging bottom style shorts and soft t-shirts, the younger boys like character Tees)

DD1 is 10 and within the boundaries of no pink, no flowers, no patterns and no bright colours, couldn't give a toss what she wears.

DD2 is 6 and won't let me choose her clothes at all. She even complains about school uniform.

Wigeon · 29/08/2018 11:18

Ha Rockbird, my DDs are similar:

DD1 (10) has no interest in clothes and is happy with pretty much anything I buy her. Always been the same.

DD2 (7) has very particular ideas about what she wants to wear each day and sometimes flatly refuses to wear certain things, really doesn’t like trousers or hoodie style tops, and generally wants to wear “girly” things.

Rockbird · 29/08/2018 11:29

Yes definitely to the girly dd2! I look at this pink meringue child covered in bows and sparkles sometimes and wonder where TF she came from! Grin

Both my dds have a particular style and have been involved in choosing clothes since they were 3/4.

Only thing about clothes for older children particularly girls is fashion changes frequently so you could end up with clothes that won't sell. Maybe stick to high end/classic brands in simple styles or formal wear that doesn't age and often stays in v good condition as its not worn much.

Also older children may wear out clothes quicker as they wear them longer than the baby stage.
