My dd is 12 and at secondary school, I gather that she is a bit of a loner which she says she is ok about but not 100% convinced. Tried talking to her but get the stroppy side come out. She won't leave the house unless absolutely necessary and I am now getting worried there's something more going on. I am going to speak to the school and take her to the docs but am wondering if anyone has any ideas how to get her to open up. We do have a good mother daughter relationship but feel somehow I am letting her down.

Sorry I haven’t really got any experience as my DD is a couple of years behind. My DSIL swears by this book.

I hope you get a few more responses Thanks

Hello, op.
No DD, I have DS but does the school have a councillor for the kids at all?
Someone they can talk to in confidence? Does the senco get involved in that sort of thing?

Or - are there any social skills classes for kids in your area? Might help her to open up a bit.

Appreciate there may be cost involved but might be worth it?

Good luck!

At that age I was similar and I did actually feel a little bit lonely and icolated from people my own age.

Encourage her to go to out of school groups or clubs to make friends if she hasn’t found anyone in school that she gets along with.

I don’t think going to the doctors or going to the school without her permission will help much. However, if you feel that there’s a bigger underlying issue then I understand.
