DD 10's just started puberty, she's having quite bad mood swings, is there any vitamin supplement or herbal remedy that could help?

Hi PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks.
Sorry but my dd isn’t if that age yet.But thought I’d post to give you a bump.Smile

Bach's Rescue Remedy pastilles in blackcurrant. Older DD dismisses them as a placebo but they have a very positive effect in DS when he's being shitty.

Buy one tin and if they work, look out for the 3-for-2 offers at Boots.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 01/02/2018 12:28

Thanks both. 😆

I'll see if I can find them Vanilla. 😆

Ooh Vanilla are they very sweet? I may have trouble persuading her to take them if so, she's not fond of overly sweet things.

I've googled and they come in orange and elderflower as well, she's recently discovered she likes elderflower, I'll try and get those.

Prozac for the mother for the next 8 years. Grin

Sorry don't know anything - only thing that works here is removal and reinstatement of the phone plus sleep.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 01/02/2018 13:47

Er, thanks P&P. Hmm😂 She doesn't have a phone yet, but I can do same with her tablet.

Is the gin for the child or the mother or both Vanilla? How much do you recommend giving the child? I think PSB prefers beer, would that also work?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 01/02/2018 14:14

I do, but I'm not averse to the odd G&T! 😂

Gin is a generic antedote in our house. Apart from Dry January when I have to have white wine.

Bettercallsaul1 · 01/02/2018 14:55

What are the mood swings about? Anything in particular?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 01/02/2018 15:02

Mostly me exercising my parental authority, I think. Hmm I do think it's the surge of hormones. It was DM who mentioned it might be PMS, bit early for that, but it makes sense that it could be hormonal. I'm not going into too much detail, because, you know, trolls.

Just wondered if it might be something external worrying her - something general like going up to senior school in a year, or problems with friends. When kids are insecure or worried, they often try to assert as much control as they can over everyday things at home as that is where they feel most relaxed and "powerful".

PenguinsandPandas · 01/02/2018 16:56

They can start pushing for more independence then which can be good for everyone if done in controlled stages. Mine started walking to school by themselves then and making snacks. The moodiness does seem to come in waves. If you get her chatting when not moody sometimes all will be revealed, can often be friends around then.

Xmasfairy86 · 01/02/2018 22:02

My DD is 9... I can feel hormone surges seeping in already. Not looking forward to full on episodes.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 01/02/2018 22:05

She won't be going to senior school until September 2019, she's the 2nd oldest in her class Better.

Unfortunately, she's not allowed to walk to school by herself until next year, school rules P&P. She does quite a lot for herself already.
