Pocket money for a 9 year old

I know this has been done to death but how much pocket money does your 9 year old get?

My dd gets £2 per week which doesn't sound like much but I do buy her the odd thing here and there in addition to her money.

Is it a stingy amount? Should I increase it?

Shock mine doesn't get anything! I buy all essentials, if we go out somewhere eg summer fairs I sometimes give her £4-5 and tell her she can spend as she likes but once it's gone it's gone.

What does your daughter use the money for? Genuinely interested as mine doesn't really get the chance to buy things?

She saves up for a few weeks and then might spend a bit in Claire's - lip balms, beany boos etc...

Oh that makes sense! I guess I don't really give my daughter any money, and then I buy her little things every now and again. But I'm a single mum so I am probably less of a spender than mums in other situations.

If you can afford more then I don't think its a bad way to teach her about spending vs saving? Perhaps £3/4 per week? I don't think they need anything more than that.

My DC get an amount linked to their age. So my 12 year old DD gets £12 a month and my 10 year old DS gets £10 a month. It goes up every year on their birthday.

My DS doesn't get pocket money. I'm like Namechanger2015 in that I buy him what he needs! As for things he wants, if it's $20 or thereabouts I buy it for him more often than not, within reason. More expensive than that he gets the opportunity to "work" to earn the item - but he does that by doing things over and above his chores.

My partner and I agreed from the start that we didn't want to raise mercenary children, so there are certain things DS is expected to do each week, not because he gets money to do them, but because he is a part of this family and in this family we all work together to keep the place clean etc. Things like keeping his room tidy, folding and distributing the family's laundry, and drying or washing the dishes each night (DS chooses one each night, DP or I do the other) are part of belonging to a family and don't get a dollar amount assigned to them in our house.

My dd was getting £5 a month and she's just asked if I can put it up to £10. I agreed as she's pretty good with money. So I think £2 a week is fine.

At 9 I think it's £2 a week is fine.

jay Personally I don't agree with not giving any pocket money at all. Why wouldn't you? Especially if they've earned it in chores. It seems quite controlling me.
