Deodorant for DD, nearly 10

Hi, my DD is 10 next month. I think this is my first post in preteens, although she has always had an intense personality, meaning we have had mood swings, arguing and door slamming from her for many years now!

Tonight I told her off because she said she'd looked for her goggles properly, and I ended up finding them (where I'd told her to look) in under 5 seconds! Anyway, she stormed upstairs, and when I went up a bit later to talk to her and give her a hug, I noticed that for the first time, she has noticeable body odour. I had noticed she'd been damp under the arms once before and bought her a deodorant, but she said it made her itchy and she stopped using it. I didn't push it as she didn't smell, but obviously we'll have to sort something out now.

My two questions are: can anyone recommend a suitable one, which works but shouldn't irritate her skin? And secondly, does this mean puberty is on its way? She has no other signs at all, but I want to be prepared. I started developing at 11, started periods at 13.5, but she is bigger than I was so could be earlier I suppose. She is 4'9" and very slim.

Thanks all.

I can tell when my 10 year old DD has done PE now, when I pick her up.
I've just got her some Simple or Dove roll-on deodrants recently. Just ones that are pitched as having gentle ingredients.
I think you can pay more and get pure crystalised sea salt deodrants etc. if you look online and perhaps in Holland & Barrett type places.
And encouraging her to wash/shower more regularly.
I used to be able to get away with carrying her uniform over for another day when she was small, but now it's a clean polo shirt/ summer dress every day.
In preparation for puberty I've got her the lilets teen starter pack and some extra pads. And I drop periods into conversation quite regularly as a normal thing.

Sanex is a sensitive one too,

Thank you both, maybe we will get a selection and she can try. I have gently explained that it's time. She's not too happy about it, but what can you do?! I bought her a book about puberty when she was 8, which she read and then we discussed, so she's well prepared. No breast buds or hair yet, so I don't think we'll be dealing with periods for a few years yet. Will continue to check her understanding and drop into conversation.

I have had the same deodorant issue with my 9 year old ds. I got him this from Boots (but not the 'girl' one) which has helped.

My DD (11) has been using the one from SamFarmer for while. It's a fairly subtle smell, citrus based and unisex. I still have to remind her to use it nearly every day, but we've had no problems despite very sensitive skin issues.

Thanks everyone! We'll go and have a look together.

You may be able to delay needed deodorant for 6mnths + by stressing washing properly every night.

Im not a pre teen by a long shot, but have sensitive skin when it comes to deodorant. The only one that doesn't make me react is Vaseline intensive care roll on. Sensitive one is aloe Vera I think.
