DD (8) wants to read Girl Online and Life with a Sprinkle of Glitter

Is she too young for these books? Are they aimed more at teenagers? I don't want her to know too much too soon. She does watch these vloggers on youtube and is really into fashion and beauty but I guess im wondering if these books give advice on love and sex which she wd def be too young for?

My 10 year old read Girl Online, and I read bits of it with her at bedtime. It alludes to sex, and is all about (tedious, tedious) boyfriend/ girlfriend stuff. Nothing awful sex wise, but I'd be surprised if an 8 year really engaged with it.

I was very glad when she finished it and we could get back to Lemony Snicket!

Dd reviewed Girl Online - she was 12 at the time. I wouldn't have thought it was meant for an 8 year old.

I've seen Louise? (Glitter woman) on dds facebook feed. She seems to talk about her little girl darcy a lot. I think she has older followers.

My 12 yo dd doesn't remember any allusions to sex but she said she'd be surprised if 8 year olds were interested in romance.
I might be way off but you can get a signed copy of Girl Online 2 if you preorder from certain retailers. Could it be that she wants Zoella's signature?

Zoe and Louise are both adults, in adult relationships tho? Why are young girls following them so avidly?

I think Zoe is the big sister that she wishes she had and the adult that she wants to be.
I thought vlogs in general were aimed at a young/teenage audience.

Garmin The vlogs are about hair and beauty mainly. Lots of young girls like that stuff, and like Zoella. They aren't about her adult relationships. Neither is the book, it's fiction, about teenage first love.

I don't know who the other vlogger is, I don't think my dd likes her. The other ones she watches are mostly minecraft or sims related.

I accidentally ended up on a Zoella video yesterday - funfetti cupcakes. She's not what I imagined. I expected some 'too cool for school' hipster type for teenagers to look up to, but instead she's like the cutesiest kids tv presenter that ever lived. Lots of giggles, lots of double hand waving. I wouldn't worry about an 8 year old watching her.

Is the Dan and Phil show awful? I've got two tickets for my 13 year old's birthday.

I don't think either are inappropriate, but just a heads up - Louise's blog is a bit more adults. There are candid posts about her less-than-ideal birth experience, and a recent one about the breakdown of her marriage. Probably not something an 8 year old could identify with in a positive way.

As a young adult, I've read both of these books. Girl Online is probably aimed towards young teenagers (I found it a little bit young reading for me). It's about teenagers first love etc. There's nothing harmful in there for an 8 year old to read (no in-depth love scenes, no swearing etc) but she might be a little young to generally relate to some of the chapters. If she's a mature 8 year old I'd allow her to read it - even if some of the things do go over her head a little bit.

Louise's Sprinkle of Glitter book is generally aimed towards an older teen / young adult audience. Again, nothing harmful at all in the book but I cannot see a child relating to very much in the book at all. The make up sections perhaps but there are other various chapters in the book including love, children etc.
