Hair Dye

ES66 · 15/02/2015 16:04

Has anyone here allowed their pre teen to have their hair dyed?

My daughter has light brown hair wants her her dyed violet. I do not have a huge objection to her colouring her hair, suggested a black or bright red

Notice many colours no longer have harch chemicals in them, some even claim to condition hair

So Why not

I did/do, she's had blue dip dyed, all over red and now purple, it looks fantastic.

What is school uniform policy ?

ES66 · 15/02/2015 16:36

School uniform policy says nothing about hair colour.

Sounds cool, what do people think, how old is she?

School uniform policy may say nothing about hair colour, especially if she's still in primary school, but it doesn't mean violet hair will be permitted. Primary school may not expect that someone would permit their child to do this. Even if school does not disallow, you may well have other parents being fed up with you when their children start nagging to dye too.

A hair die that washes out (does it?) and is gone by after half term.
Or hair chalks?

MagratsHair · 15/02/2015 19:58

Would she have to bleach brown hair to go violet? it depends how brown the hair is I suppose.

Semi permanent will wash out. permanent will have to be cut out.

ES66, She's 13 now, her friends and my friends love her hair, lots of her friends have similar, school are fine with it.
She has blonde hair so it's easy to do at home.

I'm a bit torn here.

If the school policy doesn't mention hair colour then I'd be tempted to chance it. However, if your DD has never dyed her hair before then it might be more worthwhile using hair chalks or a temporary colour.

I must confess I don't understand the logic of the rules about coloured hair. How does the colour of your hair affect your ability to learn or contribute? I ask this as I was once told at work that my hair colour (quite a bright red) did not 'reflect the corporate image'. I worked in a back-office role, had no client contact, we did not wear uniform and the building we were in housed five other companies.

No don't think so, just need a stronger colour.

I was thinking of using a semi permanent first time and see how it goes

I have often argued this.

When I was at school the teachers were more concerned with rules especially skirt length and shoe type then teaching. I had my belly button pierced, hid it for six months then was spotted by a teacher during physical ed and you would have thought my crime was to bring drugs into school or something really bad.

Got summoned to the head, my parents were contacted and I had to immediately remove the piercing

I understand some rules like no dangly earnings, but my piercing was not visible.

Have a teacher friend who says such rules create a better teaching environment, makes teaching easier.. However I have nieces in Finland, who are allowed to wear mini skirts and high heels to school, are not allowed facial piercings but are allowed belly, tongue and other piercings yet their teachers are capable of teaching, apparently it is the best teaching system in the world.

PS how do you quote on this site?

:)

I think you can do quotes in bold ( words - but with no spaces) or in italics ( words - ditto)

BTW, right now my hair is purple, having been quite a vivid red. It's not really quite bright enough at the moment but it'll have to do. Can't be arsed to bleach it all (I'm a fairly dark brown naturally).

esmea · 18/02/2015 21:42

I didn't let my DD as she has beautiful dark brown hair and she wanted to dye it blonde which wouldn't have suited her tan complexion at all!

ES66 · 19/02/2015 14:41

Well we did it, went to the hair dresses and had her hair dyed violet,

She got a few stares in the shopping center, see what happens, if we have too much hassle we will dye it black

Yay, does she like it?

She looooves it, I think she looks so cute but still not used to it yet, her gran nearly had a heart attack though, she already had issues with her long fringe.

Wishing my hair was brighter now!
