Where I buy dark pants for DD's period?
Madmog · 17/10/2014 09:59
My DD started her periods this week, has taken it in her stride. However, she's got some nice new pants which she doesn't want to get stained. I've told her unfortunately this is something she may just have to accept, but have been looking around for some dark or coloured pants so strains won't show so much. I can't find any at the moment, can I buy them. She's just gone in 11-12 pants, doubt she could wear anything much bigger as she's just over 5st.

M&S are weirdly sized. And they do black shorts which my DD likes.
I bought some for her in age 13 to 14 in the children's department. She said they were too big so bought size 8 in womens which were fine. Size 6 might be fine for your DD
Bonsoir · 17/10/2014 10:04
Why does she have accept staining in her pants? If they are properly washed there won't be a problem with staining.
ouryve · 17/10/2014 10:04
Wouldn't a woman's 6-8 fit her? M&S do plenty of plain black cotton multi-packs in those sizes.
Fragglewump · 17/10/2014 10:04
I buy size 8 cheap packs of women's black pants from supermarkets for my dd.
TheWordFactory · 17/10/2014 10:07
Primark do black pants in size 4.
Pack of 5 for a few quid.
Purpleroxy · 17/10/2014 10:07
Supermarket/M&S multipack of plain black pants in a ladies size 6.

I can't help OP, but I would like to ask Bonsoir what the correct way of avoiding staining is because after 20 years of periods I have never been able to avoid staining of either pants or bedsheets. Despite cold soaking before goibg in the machine.
Bonsoir · 17/10/2014 10:19
Dr Beckmann pre-wash stain remover spray.
Vanish powder and Ariel (liquid pouch things)
Hot wash
Madmog · 17/10/2014 10:31
Thanks for your quick replies everyone. Silly me hadn't thought of ladies pants in a smaller size - she's small all over for her age so I haven't got around to buying anything in ladies sizing yet.
I've used a couple of stain removers over the years and none have 100% done the job - I'll have to look out for the Dr Beckmann one and see how it compares. Will still buy her some more pants if she feels happier with them for now.

Soaking in bicarb prior to washing. I make a paste, rub it on and then leave it to soak a bit. Then wash. It is super stuff.
Can't help with small pants I'm afraid.
ouryve · 17/10/2014 10:48
I've always managed to remove blood stains by just washing in ariel. No pre-soaking. (DS2 has massive nose bleeds, sometimes).
Bonsoir · 17/10/2014 16:44
Probably TMI, but running cold water from the tap through blood stains is much more effective than soaking. You can literally rinse blood almost out.
anothercrackatit · 17/10/2014 16:54
The ariel pre-wash spray is the best I've tried, good on blood (less so on dried-on fat!). DD's dark knickers get bleached patches in the groin, I don't know if this is the adhesive in the pads? I use tampons myself and don't have this trouble. I buy DD multi packs of multi-colour darker knickers from M&S or Sainsbury's as I think it's tricky to see blood on plain black and can lead to later than ideal changes.

My small 12yo wears H&M girls' pants and they do a 5-pack which is a mix of black and white.

We've had exactly the same problem.
Tesco do 'short style' black pants in their ladies section, they are very stretchy and the smallest size fits my dd who is very very slender.
Ruhrpott · 25/10/2014 17:42
I use biotex (can buy it from tesco) as a prewash or presoak. Can also add salt to cold water and soak them in that before washing.
Flump007 · 25/10/2014 17:55
My DD is tiny. Size 4/6.
I have had the same problem with pants.
I bought a multi pack of "american flag" style - Navy and red patterned with stars/stripes etc from M&Co in age 11/12.
DD bought herself some patterned minion pants in primark and they have lasted ages - she started with just one pair and they washed and wore again and again and again and have lasted really well.
We went back to Primark and bought a load more of patterned pants for periods. Comic super heros, Disney carachter and minions (the comic super hero ones are the darkest). They sell them loose and cheap. Being patterned actually hides any leaks better than dark plain knickers. These pants are also considered "cool" as well apparently!
