DD has developed facial "pimples"

DD is ten in a week's time.

Since we went away on our summer holiday in July, she has developed a lot of little red lumps and bumps (pimples?) across her cheeks and at one place on her hairline. Before this we have only had the odd white headed spot on her nose or chin.

I have actually been shocked today to realise (from a photo on my phone) that her skin was so smooth and blemish free just a month ago and now it's quite bad looking and feeling. She says they do hurt a little.

She uses fragrance free wipes every evening on her face, and showers regularly. She spends hours in the swimming pool too training with her club. (But I used to find this kept my skin soft and reasonably blemish free!)

I don't know what's causing the bumps - whether it is acne of some sort - so don't know the best thing to try and clear it up. Are Clearasil type products too harsh for her skin? Any advice will be greatly received

Wipes aren't great for skin and can dry it out and irritate it. Try a sensitive cleanser for teen skin, not necessarily spotty skin though.

I was pretty concerned when my just 10 year old dd started getting pimples all of a sudden, so I took her to the doctor, who reassured me it was completely normal. I really wanted to deal with the issue if at all possible, before it started to knock dd's confidence, and she prescribed Brevoxyl to use once a day. It has worked like a dream (touch wood!) and hasn't irritated her skin at all

I would try and avoid Clearasil because it's very drying and in a combination with the wipes, and the chlorinated swimming pool water can be very harsh on the skin.

I was just looking for some advie on this very thing!

I have let my DD (9.7) use some of my cleanse and polish, which seems to help with the whiteheads but she has the red bumps so I'll try the GP for Brevoxyl if it persists.

I would oh for something like dermalogica and ensure she moisturises. It maybe the pool drying out her skin causing it to release oil and then spots.
Wipes are terrible. Drying and don't clean very well.

My DD1 is also ten and exactly like yours started with loads of bumps on her skin and small pimples.

I read some research and on that basis put her on an almost completely sugar free and junk free diet, including no crisps. It was hard for her to get used to, but she stuck with it and after 3 weeks her skin was almost completely clear. We had a weekend away with friends and she had quite a few treats/pizzas/desserts/pancakes/sweets etc and after that he pimples/bumps returned.

She knows now that the diet works, but it is hard to stick to, so I guess she has a (hard) choice. I have also tried to explain that it is a healthy choice anyway, so it will benefit her overall.

I am not saying this is the same for everyone, but it definitely is something I would try - you'd be surprised, as I was, how much sugar is hidden in so many things they eat...
