9 year old girl going from skinny to filled out in 4 months normal?

Hi, is it normal for a girl of 9 to go from being skinny to having distinct boobs and eventuated hips in just a couple of months? It just seems so fast so young! Or should I be taking to Gp to get checked?

I hope that lack of replies is not that people don't think it is normal. Should I take her to the doctors?

It happened to me. A little older I think but it was like overnight! I split a couple of pair of trousers Blush

Ok, thank you, I have just been surprised at the speed of the change so young. None of her classmates have started to change yet.

Do you think it might mean her periods start a bit earlier too?

I think thats pretty normal if Im honest. As a kid I think if you speak to her about it nicely and have a girly chat it might be better for her. I know that I felt embaressed to talk to my mum about puberty at 9 but when the conversation did come up it felt very natural. I dont think you should worry about taking her to the GP, some people are just early developers. On the period note I would maybe pack a sanitary bag with pads and a fresh pair of knickers just in case to put in her school bag.
Hope it helped :)

Was just going to suggest some sanitary protection.
Lil lets do a really good teen starter pack, it comes with a little wash bag type case that my dd carries in her school bag with some clean undies in.

Do, the Lilettes pack is lovely. It's a mixed pack, and has a pretty decent booklet in it too.

Make sure she's using bio oil from knees to shoulders, after her shower, as she shoots up and out.
I have stretch marks from a growth spurt on my inner thighs, and hips around this time. (Didn't get any when pregnant!)

Maybe some wine too, for you when the hormones kick in Grin

My son did this in the summer holidays so I knew exactly what he was eating.

He shot up from 50th centile to 91st! He has a proper bottom on him now, no longer straight up and down.

This was closely followed by needing a shower every other day and needing deodorant plus growing very dark hair on his arms and legs.

Since then he hasn't really gained any weight just grown taller.

Yes it's normal. Both my older girls filled out at around 9. The older one, who is 12 has gone very long and slim now because she's almost a teenager.

And don't forget to show her how to use the pads, and throw the used ones away properly. :)

Thank you all for the reassurance and great advice.

Fortunately she is a confident little girl, and feels able to talk with me, so I have been able to reassure her that it is all normal. (She came to me yesterday worried that her breasts were hurting at times). She was a little bit 'oh yuk' learning about periods, but at least I know she will be prepared now if they do start sooner rather than later. The advice here has really helped me. Thank you.
