10yo too young for a bra??

10yo seems to be producing a nice little gonna be huge pair of breasts, in my head 10 is too young to be wearing a bra but having just seen her having came out the shower it looks like she could be doing with some sort of support, any ideas where to buy bras for her? She is quite tall and broad already into age 12-13 clothes so it should be no surprise she is developing shes still my baby
Also she is sporty should we try and get some sort of sports bra too?
I never got bigger than an AA cup so god knows where is she getting them from

I think old enough for a bra when there is something to put in it 
Sounds like she needs a shopping trip. Though I remember being mortified when my mum came into my bedroom and gave my my first bra - it was 28AA (I hadn't asked for one)

Your best bet is to measure her yourself then look on m&s website -done nice bras, terrible fitting service!

Measure her yourself - tightly under the bust, and around the nipples. Under bust is the band size and then the difference between measurements is the cup size, so 28" and 30" would be a 28B.

she could do with one if it makes her more comfortable/less self conscious. Ask her if she wants one.
if she doesn't, leave it until she does. Who needs the discomfort of bras and the boredom of shopping for them any earlier than necessary?

Get her some sports tops, and some little reinforced vests with spaghetti straps.
I second specialistsubject, why start too early.
Marks and Spencer's do some lovely little padded tops, but if she's got something to fill a cup, I suppose measure her according to the mumsnet bra size guide, bend over and measure round the ribs and round the nips and then you'll know what size she'll need.
I was a C cup before I wore a bra, I just had sports racer back vests until I was 13.

just tell her she needs one and take her shopping.
Measure her yourself. dont get M&S to do it, whatever you do, even if you buy the bras from there

They dont know what they are doing. Measure her yourself. By all means buy from M&S but dont bother getting her measured there.

M&S, along with many retailers, use the outdated method of adding 4/5" to the underbust measurement. This results in someone wearing a band that's way too big and a cup that's too small.
I'd put money on you not being an AA either.

At 10 they're often comfortable with crop tops. It's an easier transition (and much cheaper to start with).
Some double layer crop tops have plenty of support -I sometimes wear one myself.

I thought a double A cup meant there was no difference between the back/under bust measurement and the cup/"round the nipples" measurement - are you sure you are completely without any boobs?? You are unlikely to be a AA cup... Go on the bra threads, measure and get yourself a bra as well as your DD!
(and you are old enough for a bra when you have boobs)

I doubt you an a AA cup - look at the bra threads on here and be prepared to be converted!
My DD is 11, and wears soft crop tops, they are available all over the high street, and a good place to start.

If she needs a bra then no she isn't too young.
DD wore a bra from being 10y. She needed to. I took her to town to try some on.

My Dd is 10 & having seen her little 'buds' poking through a t-shirt, we went shopping & bought her crop tops. She likes them & although liked the look of the racer back ones, prefers the plain basic ones. She has white ones + the multi coloured set, all from M & S.
I also don't understand this measuring lark. I can't get any bras to fit me at M&S & buy the seamless ones from Sainsburys for me (34b) At M&S I can't find a plain bra to fit me

My now 11yo dd needed some support at ten, she didn't want a bra because she didn't want to be different to her friends so we started with crop tops. They do nice ones with matching knickers in BHS and Matalan. It wasn't long before she needed proper bras but the crop tops were a nice transitional phase for a few months while a couple of friends 'caught up'. M&S were useless really for a shy kid self conscious about her body (make an appointment a week in advance???) so we took a range of stuff into the changing room and she tried everything on until we got what was just right not being completely thick, we could work this out for ourselves. Some time on, she is now in proper bras and our only problem is that finding non-wired ones - again M&S probably best but we do live in quite a small town so you may have more luck, or of course your DD may not mind wires.

- i'm fairly slim and have a wide back (rib cage) so currently my 34 bras are all on the loosest hook but are still tight. 36 a's which I think are the same cup size, don't fit me. (please don't say I'm a 36aa)

Same as Willowisp, my dd is 10.9 and over the summer hols I noticed she has 'buds'- we went to Primark and bought some little shaped crop tops (pretty cheap as she didn't seem too keen and I wasn't convinced she would wear them!).
I notice now she always wears them for sport, (either PE or after school), she doesn't always wear them other days, (I leave it to her!)

Willowisp. What are your actual under bust and across bust measurements? I suspect you need a smaller band and a bigger cup.

My DD is aged 9.3 and a bit body conscious but not really needing a bra yet. On PE days when she needs to undress in front of others she wears a little crop top, as do some others in her class, but only on those days. She is happy with that and so am I until she really needs some additional support. We had a chat about it before I bought them though so she felt comfortable about the whole idea.

A 34B is the same cup volume as a 30D. Your 34 feels tight because the cup is too small. If you scoop, do you get any overspill, side bulge?

Sorry for delay, um, no side spill, but maybe very slight non containment at the front...or perhaps bra digs in a bit I think I will look at 30d's next time I'm out
