1st periods

Dd started her period last night

She didn't say anything, just put her stuff in the washing machine, got a pad out if her drawer and went to bed

This morning she asked me what to do with her towel after her shower and got on with her day

But she's asked me if we can have a meal out tonight as other people do to celebrate her becoming a woman!!!

Do people do this?

I've reminded her that 12 isn't a woman, nicely obviously! She's getting her hair done this afternoon so I've already said I'll get her some hair bits

But a celebratory meal??? Wtf!

Be proud of her that she has dealt with it in such a sensible and practical way - I have always stressed to my DD that it is not an illness but one of those things we all have to deal with.

My DD is 17 and neither she nor I have heard of the celebratory meal thing. Maybe it is a new thing? What have you said to her about it?

I have heard of this and think its a lovely idea. If she's being so positive then go with it!

I am proud of her, and also very relieved its the school holidays!

I just don't really want to make a big deal of it, it's just part of being female

I wouldn't suggest a meal out to my DD - but if she asked, and was being as mature and sensible as your DD is being, I don't think I'd have the heart to refuse.
