Magazine Suggestions for a 10 year old girl

Hi there. My daughter was given some money for Xmas and she would like to use it to buy a magazine subscription. I have no idea what to go for, we bought a copy of Bliss magazine, but having looked through it beforehand I have found it to be totally inappropriate for her age. Talk of fingering, touching up boys and frigidity left me feeling very victorian. Can someone recommend something suitable. She's interested in the usual, pop stars, make up, fashion and cute animals. Thanks!

I think girls' magazines like Bliss are all going to be total crap much of a muchness... how about National Geographic Kids?

Dd liked the jacqueline wilson magazine. She now gets the top of the pops one.

My DD gets (not on subscription though) either Top of the Pops or We love pop. Niether seem to have too much talk of kissing boys etc but seem to keep her interested. I really like the NG Kids magazine but can't get DD into it!

I was coming to say the same as Pesky my dd is 10 and they are the only two magazines i really don't mind her buying!

Not a magazine but dd gets First News and seems to like it.

Its a great girls magazine put together by Mumsnet regular Mme Lindor.

I'm looking forward to DD being old enough to read it with me.

dd(10) has a subscription to Pony magazine - obviously not much good if your dd doesn't ride but dd loves it (the only kissing in there is of ponies .. )

Nat Geo kids is great. I am going to renew DDs subscription. The only drawback is the cost.
She also liked the one, I think suggested up there ^. It was a newspaper for children.
The BBC do some superb ones about history and wildlife too.

Aquila magazine is great. It's a mix of activities, stories, letters, penfriends and competitions. Our DD has had it for 4 years now and we supplement it with the odd teen mag so she can get her fix of pop culture!

You can get the National Geographic one with Tesco vouchers, in fact they have quite a few on there to choose from. I'm about to get Adventure Box from there for my 7 year old, which is more stories, puzzles, games etc

Thank you for all your suggestions, I shall take a look at all of them. We already have a subscription to National Geographic, but the first news has been recommended before. Cheers ladies.

I am running Jump! Mag single-handedly, with the fabulous support of a lot of writers, many of them pre-teens and teens. I plan to develop Jump! further, and am working on offering a lot more content so do keep checking to see what has changed.

Thanks for link to Jump!, I just sent it to my 11 yr old. It looks good. She has also enjoyed this magazine www.wonderpediamagazine.co.uk/ which is slightly science based, but a really interesting read. Available in WH Smith's too if you want it in hardcopy.

For age 12+ I suggest Flipside, which is not worthy or too cerebral. Still sciency & gadgety & not-so-banal aspects of pop culture & plenty to think about.

Don't like NG Kids. Too many adverts!

i recommend Jump! as well - it's really good and refreshing for pre-teens.
