So, half-term break...it's been a stessful week juggling child-care and work. Sigh of relief yesterday when all was quiet upstairs as my two DDs played happily and quietly... having a really lovely girly time... or so I thought as youngest (aged 8) came down with her nails having been painted. Turns out, oldest (aged 11) was charging her for doing it! Per nail!! I just feel there s something very wrong with that... a sort of taking advantage and I ve told 11 yr old off and made her give back the money. Am I over- reacting?

Probably not an over-reaction, but what an enterprising DD you have. Grin

Oh something v low. 1p per nail... 15p hair styling. It doesn t matter to me how much because youngest dsnt hv much money so to her, it's alot. What s made me a bit sad is that she took advantage of her little sister s naiivetySad

Well that was mates rates....so...Grin

I would explain to her that charging her little sis is a bit OTT...but at the same time I would secretly admire her business brain.

This reminds me of my sister and me when we were children. She used to charge me for her old toys. She's now a millionaire while I am not, so perhaps it shows a good head for business. I can see why you are angry about it though, it's rather selfish.

Rather younger than that, I convinced my younger brother that pennies (large, brown predecimal ones) were more valuable than sixpences (small silver coins) because they were bigger. Blush

I think dc have been doing this kind of thing forever. She got busted, has had to repay the cash, and has hopefully learned a lesson about not ripping off your nearest and dearest.

Or is there something else you're worried about, underlying this?

10p? It will cost her more than that in nail polish (my DC buy own). Massive OTT. Let them work it out between themselves.

Akiss. I did that to my sister. Thrupenny bits were worth less than pennies due to the size.
OP, you are over reacting.

Yabu. I can't understand why you would get properly annoyed by this? All sisters do things to annoy / take advantage of each other. I think it's quite sweet that your older child was spending time and effort with her sister - they obviously get on enough that she was happy to play with her. So she charged her a small amount of money? I would be annoyed if she charged money to spend time with her ("give me 10p and ill
