DD was dancing at school yesterday and I noticed her buds are now big enough to bounce. She tells me they hurt when she runs. Know feel bad that I've not taken her before now to buy a bra.

Where do we go? Tell me your best tips please

I would take a tape measure and do it your self in BHS or MARKs or LASENZA or somewhere like that. I find myself that fittings are an awfull faf and I always end up with a bra that wasn't in the measurements I was fitted for anyway.

just be sure it fits nicely around the back and shoulders as well as the cup.

John Lewis are meant to be quite good.

If she is likely to be embarrassed measure and fit her yourself (remembering of course that you don't add on inches any more).

M&S and Debenhams are very good.

John Lewis, debrnhams maybe, never m& s they are awful. Best an independent lingerie shop probably .

M&s have pretty ok teen bras just can't fit for toffee ( no we don't have your SE - see if a bigger band and smaller cup will do! Um nope)

debenhams have some really nice, well fitting starter bras

Watching with interest - my dd is 11 ans will need one soon, I know she'll not want a stranger to measure her. How do you work out what size she needs?

Hebiegebies · 05/06/2012 19:10

John Lewis were fab, the ladies were great and thoughtful. The lady who fitted the bra measured DD over her T shirt and went out while DD put the bras on. 4th bra fitted well

I took my dd1 this week for her first bra. She was adament that she didn't want a stranger measuring her so I did it as a rough guide. There are loads of websites that explain how to work it all out but she really just need to try a few on. Example - she measured as 26inch. site said she'd need 30aa but actually got 32aa as 30 too tight!!

Just a wee note, most website calculators are wrong and still add on the 4/5" to underbust to get band size. This is wrong.

Underbust size = band size.

Bra band should fit snugly on loosest setting..

DD was measured at Debenhams. The bra woman was lovely and measured her through her school shirt.

AnaS · 13/06/2012 17:59

The calculator wasn't dead right but it was close. She measured at 26" and needed a 32" bra. All the rest were definately too tight!!

Watching this with interest, don't think it will be too long for dd now. She's worried she won't be able to get into/out of a bra herself!

I would take her to m&s or to a good independent shop, they measured me by sight (and then I bought one from asda!)
