Best pads for 12y dd?

Hi hope I've posted in the right place. I want to buy some sanitary pads for my dd for her to put away for when she starts her periods which I think will be soon as she is developing boobs/hips ect. I just don't know which would be best so any advice would be great. Also are pads best at first and when should she thinking about tampons?

If she wants to, then there's no reason for her not to use tampons from the start.

I remember hating pads and so used tampons from probably my second period.

As for which pads are best, you'll probably get a different answer from every woman who posts on here because everyone prefers different things (wings, non wings etc)

Can you get a box with lots of different types that she can play with and try, and see which ones she prefers?

wakeupandsmellthecoffee · 09/02/2012 20:56

It's not Lego you know . Lol

mykiddies · 10/02/2012 14:31

Lillets teens new ones (pads) just out noticed in Boots

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/02/2012 14:36

I know it's not lego, but she will have her own preferences, and I'm sure she will want to experiment before her period actually starts. This way she can explore her options in a, non-pressured and private way, or not if she likes to be more open and chatty.

Don't assume that her perioda will start light-dd's were heavy right from the beginning and the special ten pads and things were worse useless. Whichever ons you choose, go for ones with "wings". And buy several packs of really cheap pants so she can throw them away while she's learning how to manage.

And make sure there is a bin in bathroom /bedroom for her so she can get rid easily.

seeker · 10/02/2012 14:42

Oh, qnd some of those special little disposal bags. Not very green, I know, but hey ho.

lollilou · 10/02/2012 15:22

Thanks for all your replies. I have brought some pads with wings, tampons and some bags. They are now in the cupboard under her sink while we await the event! lol.

Make sure she has a "kit" in her school bag too- spare pants, a couple of towels and some wipes in a little zippy bag. Get her into the habit of having it with her all the time- then she can't be caught unprepared.

Loveleopardprint · 11/02/2012 09:22

Put a few pads etc. in a pencil case so that she is not embarrassed if it falls out of her school bag.

Habanera · 23/02/2012 12:45

A pencil case kit! what a great idea. Now I know what to do for my dds when the time comes. Actually maybe I would like one for myself- I'm not too thrilled when my stuff comes out when I am searching for something else in public in my bag.

I wish you guys had been my mum for this area of life. In my case some painkillers would have helped a lot too-I hope it's not so bad for my (or your) dds.

nooka · 24/02/2012 05:25

My dd's 'just in case' bag includes painkillers. I'm always surprised at how little 'first period' advice seems to mention even the possibility of quite serious pain, it's all hot water bottles and gentle exercise, which when I was a teenager did bugger all. I was so grateful when I finally found a GP who prescribed me ibuprofen and then the pill, I really really hope that dd does not have the same experience.
