12 yr old dd wants to go to cinema with pals is this too young ??

my 12 dd is in y8 at school , and has asked to go to the cinema on sun afternoon with 3 pals , 1 of them have known since reception met 1 other seems lovely girl , i will drop mine and 1 other girl off and her mum will pick them up , shes never really gone anywhere on her own before and just a bit worried , does anyone think this is too young or what ages have you let dc go alone to places ?? thanks for reading x

She is old enough to go on her own.
My dcs went from year 7, on the bus.
Does she not want to go anyone on her own? How does she get to school?

myself or her dad take her to school , shes never really asked to go anywhere on her own before , shes always had pals here or shes gone to there houses , shes been with school in y6 for 3 days away etc , ive only got her so am definatly a bit over protective to say the least lol !!

My DD started going on her own with friends in Y7 aged 11.

How does your DD get to school?

You need to start giving her a bit of independence. Could she catch the bus to school with her friends?

Defintiely let her go alone. I can't wait for the day I no longer have to sit through shite like the Smurfs.

I would let her go. My DD has just started yr7 and in primary school I was overprotective mum and never let her anywhere on her own (not even 5mins in the house alone while I went to the shop over the road). However since starting school she has to get a bus on her own and she seems to have grown up years in the last 2 weeks. Much more responsible, organised etc. I think a bit of independence makes a huge difference and it they are being dropped off and picked up at the cinema not much could happen to them.

Yes, she's old enough. ds(13) has gone on the train with his friends on their own to the cinema a few times, also just to town to shop.

Absolutely no problem, in fact from 12 onwards DD has been going to the cinema and friends' parties all by herself, ie getting there and back by herself. She has to negotiate public transport to get to school, and this is no different. The one thing she has not done, however, so far is be out in the evening/in the dark by herself, but now she's 13 we might let her be out say at 6pm in winter.

"I can't wait for the day I no longer have to sit through shite like the Smurfs." God, that is so true. On the other hand, DD insisted on going to HP7 with her friends and I STILL haven't seen it as a consequence (too embarrassed to go by myself).

Of course it's fine. If they are being dropped off and picked up then I'd say 8 is a good age to start doing that. 12 is plenty old enough :)

Yup absolutely old enough. Mine did similar trips from age 11 onwards.
