Foreign language resources at home

Has anybody used foreign language books/programmes at home with a pre-schooler that they would recommend?

I am keen to expose my dd to French not in a teach her she must learn kind of way but just to broaden her horizons. Simple story books, tv programmes the same as you would in English.

I speak french quite well and and we have taken our holidays in France twice a year since she was born and when we are there she has picked up the basics hello/goodbye/please/thank you, numbers, words for her favourite foods and they stick each time. When we go back or meet my MILs french friend the appropriate words do come out unprompted.

I think it is a shame for her to not have something available. She is picking up some spanish from the Dora books she has but as I know very little spanish I can't be much help to her with it. Plus when she starts school she will do French from reception class so it seems sensible.

Any recommendations?

dora exists in french (same DVDs as the UK one).
"barbapapa" is always a hit (DD loves it).
'la fee coquillette' is fun.
"mes plus belles chansons" ou "les plus belles comptines des petits lascars" the book comes with a CD if you don't want to sing yourself!

didn't realise about Dora that's interesting it's great for the mix of english and spanish makes it very approachable i think.

Will have a look for the others you have recommended. Thanks

Our local library has a stack of dual language books in the children's section. There are all different languages including French and some of the books are beautiful.

You could join the French Library in South Kensington- 44 poundsfor an adult covers both adult and children's library. Loads of videos and books- free. Leo et popi is a favourite of my 2yr old DS. Granpa has a degree in french & was his teacher but has gone off to the States. C'est ma maman has stuck though!
