Ds doesn't like nursery teacher

Title sums it up really. Ds (3.5) has been in nursery placement every afternoon since September. There have been a few changes with the teachers he has had in that time due to temporary contracts, maternity etc but now that has settled down and he has two teachers, one who is there Monday Tuesday & Wednesday (teacher 1) and the other covers Thursday & Friday (teacher 2). Up until now he has gone to nursery no problem but now he is saying he doesn't want to go when it's teacher 2. Last week he had to be pulled off me screaming albeit he was fine after I'd gone, and tonight we've just had a long talk before bedtime with him telling me he's not going to nursery tomorrow, he only wants to go when it's teacher 1. He won't give me any actual reason why he doesn't like her. The only explanaition I can think of is that she is a bit older that the other teachers (mid 50's) and a bit old- school with her approach; she doesn't seem to pander to them which is fair enough. I know I can't rely on the rambling stories of a 3 year old to find out what the real problem is but I don't know what to do and I've got a knot in my stomach worrying about this and worrying about tomorrow

Does your DS have a 'key person' assigned to him? Sounds as though perhaps you should have a chat with her and say that he has some anxiety about coming when it's teacher 2. You can say that you're sure it isn't a personal thing, it's probably because of familiarity, frequent changes of staff etc. Your child's key person (and he certainly should have one) ought to come up with some ways of helping you out with this one.

Is there any opportunity for you to stay as a parent helper on one of the sessions that teacher 2 runs, so you can size up the situation for yourself?

Thanks Misshardbroom. There is a head teacher who is overall in charge of nursery and she is very nice. If the problem persists I will speak to her. I don't know if I would be able to be a parent helper but even if I was this wouldn't be any good because if I was there ds wouldn't leave my side. I have spoken to ds again this morning and he said he is going to nursery so we'll see how today goes. Thanks for you help
