hi
was wondering if anyone else had come across this in a nursery setting-
the nursery takes all age children but accepts nursery education grant children for the pre school but only in the afternoon sessions 1-4pm (1st problem as my daughter is not at her best in the afternoon)
i went in to see the setting and was impressed (my older daughter went there 5 years ago and was full time)and it had changed along side the eyfs framework -great i thought .untill it came to the finances
now the nursery have worked out that for 3 days 12-4pm (12 hours)the cost will be £28.29 per week (the cost of over £1000 per year )there costing are =
3 sessions @12-4pm =£54.00
less grant=£25.71
=£28.29 per week
i may have had a blonde moment but i thought the entitlement was free for 38 weeks a year ?what is the extra for ?was thinking that the extra may be the difference the nursery charges per session (£18.00) and what the governent give them but surely by these working out the neg is only £3.00 per hour (25.71divide by 12 hours )surely the nursery isnt charging £5.00 per hour? i am so confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
please help

The extra is likely to be the difference between the nursery's standard rate and the funded entitlement. I think this is how it worked when DD was in nursery but I'm going back 3 years now so don't quote me on it.

But the important thing is ask!

Their fees structure should be transparent to them. You are completely within your rights to say 'please can you explain how the rate is calculated, and where my free entitlement is applied?'

If the front line staff can't answer this for you then they should be able to get an answer from a business manager / administrator. It's a reasonable question.

Fees structure should be transparent to you, I should have said. Sorry
