Is it really weird that I gave the teachers at ds playgroup a small hamper for Chritmas?

Hi, well not exactly as the last day before Christmas it snowed heavily so we took it in first day back. (small basket, nice teabags, hot choc, biscuits etc)

No one else had got anything for them and they were really surprised....it's felt slightly awkward since!

Just wanted to get it right for ds feel like a bit of a plonker!

I do this, just a tin of lovely chocolate biscuits though. It's not just the teacher that cares for my child, there's the dinner ladies/specialist teachers etc, it must be nice for them to know that they are appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. Because they're around 8 different teachers I thought I'd do a hamper so they'd be enough to go around when they're on their break...There are no dinner ladies, cleaners etc.

I don't get it, I thought they'd appreciate it?!

They probably DO appreciate it and were just a bit taken aback if all the other parents never bother getting anything.

My son's nursery staff get loads of presents, I'm surprised yours don't usually get anything! Are you sure they weren't just taken aback because you were giving it to them AFTER Christmas and they wondered what it was for?

onesouffle · 17/01/2010 23:27

I think it was fairly obvious it was for Christmas because I made a joke about us all being tempted to open the box of chocolates!

I hope they appreciate it - I feel all ridiculous iykwim.

At the end of last years summer term they were all given presents. We hadn't because ds had only just started and to be honest I hadn't realised all that stuff happens quite so soon! So I thought I should get it right this time.

Don't dwell on it - it was a lovely gesture, they won't think you're ridiculous, I'm sure.

If our preschool staff received something like this, they'd be delighted.

They were probably just surprised because they thought the season of goodwill and present giving was over.

It's a lovely gesture and a great idea for when you need to buy for a group.

thanks very much for your replies - glad to know I'm not weird

No, that sounds like a lovely idea! I'm sure they appreciated it.

The hamper was a lovely idea!
We took a tin of chocs as i wanted to get something they could all share .
Quite a few people sent similar things.

lovely idea - and we would appreciate it at the preschool I work in. In fact, a couple of years ago several parents clubbed togther and bought a cafetiere, and set of different coffees, teas and lovely biscuits.

I'm sure they were very grateful but possibly a bit surprised.
