Move to morning session in preparation for starting Primary?

My DD attends our local Primary School attached Nursery 5 afternoons a week and is loving it!

However I have heard that it is recommended that in her second year of nursery that she moves to the morning sessions to get her used to going to school.

Is it generally accepted that this helps or does it not matter?

Thanks

Tosh, DD only ever had afternoon preschool sessions. This is common at another local schools (half of intake only have afternoons). DD was absolutely fine starting school subsequently -- might b different if U are never in habit of getting out door before 9am, tho'.

Our afternoon children move to mornings in the term (or maybe two terms) before they start school.

They start having PE to help them learn to dress and undress themselves, they join the reception classes for a Foundation stage assembly once a week and they may even go and spend some playtimes with reception. They take part in all the festival assemblies and concerts (Harvest, Christmas etc). The children who start reception in January spend some time each week playing in the reception class in the Autumn term getting to know their future classmates. I think they also do some basic phonic teaching as well. Obviously your school may do things differently.

That said, it's not essential to do any prepping for school as some children don't attend any other setting before reception, so it's up to you!

Thanks for your replies. We are up and out the door at 8am during the week so this won't affect her. If I am honest I think I want to move her to the mornings so that when her younger cousin starts in the afternoons she won't be affected by his 'behaviour'!
